Re: fuel pump

beware of lead times at Burlens. They've had production problems (now apparently sorted) but there's a long backlog. I've been waiting about 8 weeks and still expecting another 2-3 weeks before delivery. That said the other suppliers will have the same problem because they get theirs from Burlens - ...

Re: photo request - front seat belt buckle holes.

My 1971 Traveller has captive nuts in the floor for the seatbelts, either side of the tunnel so well away from the prop shaft and handbrake cables. [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1378388217_10075 [/frame] No idea if they're original or installed by an owner but they don't get in the way ...

Experian AutoCheck - Free Checks

I purchased a set of Experian AutoCheck car searches to verify a car my son bought but I didn't use them all. They expire at the end of Sunday 18 August 2013, so need using up. There are 4 checks on offer. If you are about to search a car and want to use one of the searches then PM me with the follo...

Re: Sat Nav glove box

Can you download the maps for Navfree or will it use your roaming data to access online maps? Yes you can download them. I connect to WiFi at home to download the (very large) files. You should also download the 'Postcode' file if you want to use them to locate your destination. I've never had a pr...

Re: Sat Nav glove box

I've used the Sat Nav on my Android phone with the phone in exactly the same position and amazingly it works fine. BTW if anyone has a smartphone and want to save yourself a fortune, get hold of 'Navfree' 'cos (a) it's free, as it's name suggests, but as importantly (b) maps are available for a wide...

Part of the delay in supply is because Brulens have had previous problems with coils and diaphragms, which they say have now been resolved but I certainly will be taking it for a decent run....with the old pump in the boot, just in case!!

Re: Pump up the heat

So, the old pump is repaired and working fine as far as I can see. I followed the destructions to the letter in setting it up. However,it is getting fairly warm in operation (not like it was when it failed, i.e. almost too hot to touch), is this normal or do I still have a latent problem? How warm/h...

Re: Pump up the heat

... my fuel pump seems fine ! And best to keep it that way! :D BTW the suppressor capacitor broke during reassembly, so I replaced it with a diode (see here and here for details on how to do the same). The new pump is apparently not polarity sensitive and as far as I can work out it's because the c...

Re: Pump up the heat

Piccies as promised. Old melted one on the left, new one on the right. Note where the washers have sunk into the plastic and the centre section has particularly dropped, which caused the points to remain closed: [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1373966325_10075 [/frame] This one gives a be...

Re: Pump up the heat

BMC - The pedestal is completely distorted, not just the pillars, so merely replacing them won't work (I'll post a picture when I strip it down). You may well be right about the points getting stuck or not opening sufficiently, i.e. arcing, and the coil getting too hot, but saying that we all know ...

Pump up the heat

OK, so here's a weird one. Car conked out on the way to the petrol station with characteristics of fuel having run out, even with gauge showing 1/4 full. Feeling a right pillock I topped up using the spare can in the boot, thinking he gauge had gone wonky and I'd run out (I couldn't remember how far...

Re: Escutcheon and Fuel filler surround

Thanks Bob, hadn't thought of plumber's mait. I have a tub of it that I bought for a job once and never used, so will give that a try. Unfortunately didn't rear safety tips first and burned the house down whilst trying to light my pipe using a spark from the battery to ignite the fuel vapour  O...

Escutcheon and Fuel filler surround

The escutcheon on my passenger door handle has come loose. I can see one end is held in place by a tab that hooks behind the door skin but what should attach to the peg end to keep it secure? Should it be held in place by a starlock washer? Also, what's the best way of fixing the external rubber col...
