Ok, it's all starting to make sence now. So my problem lies with the regulator not telling the dynamo to produce power. Correct? The photo of the engine bay was from last year and I have just changed the regulator because originally we thought that was the fault. I'll check my wiring from today back...

Thanks.

I went back to basics. Voltage from the small terminal on the dynamo = 0.2-0.3v. Voltage to the large terminal 1.2-1.5v.

I would expect 12-14v and hence I'm going to change the dynamo. It's not expensive but would give peace of mind.

Following Mogwai's chart but I don't have a control box, just a dynamo and a regulator.

I forgot to mention, when measuring the voltage across the back of the dynamo, it kept jumping to 10-13v every so oftern. Difficult to tell with a digital gauge.

Morning all (well almost)

First test done and the dynamo 'Motors'. How fast should it motor? I'm guessing mine is turning about the same speed as it would when connected at idle.

Starting to follow Mogwai's charts now

Thanks, Wish it worked as good as it looks.

At least it's nice to work on. Everything comes apart as it should and not caked with crud.

I checked all the wiring conections today and the continuity along them. All seamed fine. Battery is only a few months old and terminal look ok.

Been thinking.

When my battery went dead and the dynamo only kicks out 2.5v, how did the engine run? When I cranked it with the handle, it started first turn and ran perfectly, no miss fire even on the steep hills in the wet.

Good idea. I'll do that in the morning. I've put her away in the barn for the night with the cover over her.

Will report back my finding. Many thanks for the help.

I've noticed the A,F,D,E markings now, I was looking right next to the terminals. So, Battery Voltage 12.5v regardless of engine speed. Between pins D&E, 1.5v to 2.5v depending on speed. Between pins F&D, same, 1.5v to 2.5v again depending on speed. 2.5v is probably about 3000rpm not a fast ...

Thanks for the quick reply. I couldn't find any markings on the regulator but I will check again.
I'll try and do what you said this afternoon but I have someone coming to buy my car and I also have to dodge the rain and high winds.

Hello All, Sorry to hijack this thread but I have the same problem. On my first Morris outing we broke down and the battery was flat. After wiggling some wires and cranking with the handle it fired up. After a lunch break, she started again and drove fine. Stopped off on the way home and the battery...

I did a wikipidia search and found. The rights to the Morris marque are currently owned by MG Rover, but after that company's financial collapse, and partial purchase by one or more Chinese state businesses, it is not clear who will finally own the Morris marque. Neither of the Morris Assembly Plant...

I hope not, but with the Chinese now owning the rights to the Morris mark, I suppose anything is possible. I actually think the Chinese prefer Austin's though? Do the Chinese own Morris?? I work for Rolls Royce which is BMW owned. BMW did own the Rover Group and only sold off Rover but kept the rig...

an informal run out would be good now I have the moggy running. It's done 4miles in the last year so I need an excuse to give it a run out.
