Modifications section gone awol?

Has the modifications section been moved? I was browsing and it’s dawned on me that it’s missing.

Any one seen it?

Missing engine id tag

I’ve got a Marina 1275 engine that is missing it’s tag and when I bought it, the chap said it had been missing for over 40 years (the time it had sat in his garage) and he has no paperwork for it.

What do I do?

Re: Marina engine questions

Thinking about it, as it came from a Morris, it must of had the rear plates swapped for an mg midget, otherwise it wouldn’t have fitted the previous Morris.

Re: Marina engine questions

Thanks for the reply Phil. It’s a standard 1275 engine and not the A plus engine. I aim to put a mini manifold and HIF carb on it and I’ll fit a large bore exhaust. Thankfully the front and rear plates have been swapped for a standard 1098, as has the flywheel too, so that will make things easier. I...

Marina engine questions

So I’ve bought at 1275cc marina engine that I am going to treat to a total rebuild. It was previously in a traveller but has sat for several years and I’m going for belt and braces approach. I do however have questions. As it’s an a series engine, I assume that various parts from a 1098 will fit it,...

Metal parcel shelf

Has anyone considered or indeed replicated the perception shelf in metal, such as a thin aluminium painted black or anodised black? I have had the new shelf in Alice for 6 months and it’s already gone saggy due to moisture in the air, so I was thinking of replicating it in thin aluminium (using the ...

Who owns Quicksilver (YSY 946)

Who owns the minor called “Quicksilver” I have seen a few pictures and a lovely article about it, but what has really caught my eye is the boot mounted spare wheel. So if I could find out who owns it now, I’d love to get some more pictures of this lovely mod. According to the dvla, it had a new v5c ...

Re: Draining water coolant from engine block

Is this citric acid just plain old lemon juice or are you using citric acid powder and adding that to a cooling system that’s just water?

Addendum: Google knows all and I see it can be bought in packets

Re: Indents in carpet

It does appear to be one of those little design qwerks that has been carried through it’s production run, or I could just be being a bit a*al about the whole thing considering I have just finished restoring it.

Indents in carpet

How have people prevented the front seats from making dents in the carpets in the rear footwells? I have had the seats in my minor for less than 6 months and just the sheer weight of them have caused annoying impressions in the carpets that will inevitably make holes in the long run. Is there a devi...

Re: Won’t rev

Well I went for the sledgehammer solution and replaced the jet and needle in the carb, then after a suggestion about the weights in dizzy, I replaced the whole dizzy with a new electronic one. Safe to say that the car purrs like a kitten

Won’t rev

So my minor won’t rev. If I floor the throttle, nothing happens for a while just the engine continues to idle and then slowly the revs pick up and all is normal. If I lift the carb piston a bit (either with the plunger or my finger) then it revs normally, but when I look down the throat of the carb,...

Longer grease nipples on prop shaft

So I have discovered that at some point over the 3 years that my restoration has taken, I have assembelked the uj’s on the prop shaft wrong and I cannot get a grease gun onto them. I don’t really want to disassemble them as that will risk damaging them and thus replacing them totally. So what I woul...

Why no mk 4 model?

It struck me the other day whilst I was researching my own car’s history that the model numbers of the minor don’t make sense. We have the mark 3 that was produced up to October (ish) 1963 and then into its last incarnation of the mark 5, the minor 1000. But what happened to the mark 4? Did it not g...

Number plate history

I’m trying to work out the history of my car via its number plate. I know the car was first registered in April 1963 but I don’t know where it was first registered. The reg is 948 TYA, so hopefully that will help. The reasoning behind this is because I’d like to track down the original garage that s...

Tonneau cover

Does anyone have an old worn out tonneau cover for a convertible that I could buy from them? I need it to use as a template for mine but finding one is proving elusive.
