Re: Tweaking 1275 post rebuild
From my experience, i use a Hif38 on a 1098 engine and a Hif44 on a 1275 engine. Both run lovely.

I did exactly what Phil said above. It was posted a while back and I copied it. Works very well.

Re: 1275 midget gearbox and clutch operating arm
I have a 1275 engine in one of my cars. I used 1275 backplate 1275 flywheel to match engine (early midget) 1275 3 piece clutch from midget 1098 clutch fork as its mechanical 1098 gearbox And I fabricated my own clutch lever arm to change the pivot point so I have a light clutch. I can depress the pe...

Re: Sensible upgrades ??
Well yes, not quite like the '65 Shelby Mustang nor the Sierra RS 500 Cosworth did, but very tolerably so. The engine was professionally rebuilt less than 3k ago, but it suits my needs and expectations currently. I have seen/heard of a Moggie with a Ford flat head V8 in it, interesting, but a step ...

albert (Alan here) he is referring to an english comedy programme from the 70's called "fawlty towers" where the waiter called Manual always said "i know nothing..... i'm from Barcelona. I'd get the Morris Pick up if i were you with a canvas top. They are just lovely and better looking.

Re: Disc brakes for lower maintenance?
Hi, I know people convert to front discs for better braking and less effort (with a servo) but I was wondering if anyone had converted for reliability/ lower maintenance. I have standard 8" drums and I feel like I'm always having to replace cylinders or make adjustments. I frequently have seiz...

Re: Disc brakes for lower maintenance?
All brakes require maintenance. eh? how do you come to that conclusion? I've got discs fitted to my 2 MM and my A35. In the 10 years i've owned morris/austins with discs brakes all i've ever changed is brake pads/discs and a brake fluid changes. no other maintenance is required. I started with stan...

Head gasket between cylinder 2 and 3.
Do a compression test to find out.

i agree with that. However, you know what your doing and have a lathe. Average Joe Public can have ago at the JB Weld method without any machining equipment. I think this method is aimed at the garden shed engine builder.

Re: Crank seal oil leak (again)…
fair point. but other than going to MED, who will only do a 1275 in line block, there aren't any other options.
Try the JB weld method. It does improve the rear drip. A few have tried it with success. Granted, it needs to be done when rebuilding a new engine.

hello Phil, i'm on about these https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/shop-by-model/mg/midget/engine/engines-components/crankshaft-oil-seal-conversion-kits.html they don't work as you pointed out above. https://www.mgexp.com/forum/mg-midget-forum.3/aftermarket-rear-oil-seal-guidance-request.1992078/ if you r...

Re: Crank seal oil leak (again)…
has anyone tried the JB Weld solution? I have the info on it if anyone is interested. It has been done by a few friends of mine and they get the occasional drip but as a whole, it's better than the 'solution' that Moss etc sell.

thought this subject hadn't been discussed for a while. Yes. MM and A35 gearbox are the same.
Only difference is the series 2 MM and A30 boxes. MM has a slightly shorter tail shaft.

Re: Crankshaft pulley nut size
I've been using a deep 33mm socket for 30 years. It covers the starter handle bolt and the shallow bolt (1275 engine).
