Re: 1098 engine & gearbox in a 948 (1961) saloon. Good idea? Bad idea?
I presume you would need to commit to the purchase before they would do the engine/gearbox swap? If so, you could well be disappointed to find a tired 1098 fitted that you were unable to reject. ”Good used” is not really a reliable description. And what has the fuel pump to do with it? I would buy a...

I suppose it really depends how much money the dealer wants to do the swap?

Just make sure you insurance company know about the modifications to your vehicle. I wouldn't worry so much about the DVLA.

Re: Electronic distributors
I agree, and that is what I would do if I could find a genuine Lucas one in good condition at a fair price. I know there are plenty of "copies" but in my experience they are very poor quality. I dream of finding a NOS item for £50

Re: Electronic distributors
Thanks John, that confirms my plan.
Les, I am keeping the points, this gives me both options at the flick of a switch. If you read my earlier post in this thread you will see this is for a Rover V8 engine

Re: Electronic distributors
Thanks, I wanted a triple pole so I could disconnect the power as well. I have found one that should do the job, will report back when fitted.

Re: Electronic distributors
Further to my post re Boyer Bransden, I have now purchased one of their inductive discharge units. What I would like to do is fit a switch to replicate the Sparkrite SX2000 system of bypassing the unit in case of failure. The switch should disconnect the power from the unit and simultaneously switch...

Re: Electronic distributors
I know we have gone a little of topic, but for completion I thought I would add that Boyer Bransden are still making a capacitor discharge unit which I think is similar to the old SX2000 . I would have bought one of these instead if I had been aware as they have a good reputation, in fact I still mi...

Re: Electronic distributors
OK, now time for an admission. My other vehicle has a Rover V8. The distributor is quite worn with about 30 thou play at the cam. A rebuild is too expensive, about £250 with the DD. The copies are bad quality & both lumenition and pertronix are pricey. Accuspark is selling a Sparkrite 4000 for £...

Re: Electronic distributors
I suggest you revert to the original Lucas distributor and standard points set up and see how the engine performs. You can then decide if there is any benefit in these "upgrades". Personally I like to keep things simple and as designed. Many will disagree.
