Re: Powerless!
Thanks guys. I'll give it a go tomorrow. Fingers crossed I've narrowed it down correctly, really these are the only things that I have changed since it was running OK.

Re: Powerless!
OK, so I have been looking at the car and the problem seems to be in the mixture. Where would be a good starting place to re-set the carb so that it doesn't run too richly?

Re: Powerless!
Tim, Could this have caused the problem? But which problem? Can you please respond to earlier questions, we do need some more information in order to best help you. You say that the car is running rough and lacks power. That could be a head gasket. It could also be a stuck choke (particularly if th...

Re: Powerless!
The car was not filled to the correct level, it had too much oil. Could this have caused the problem?oliver90owner wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 11:35 am If the engine is filled to the correct level, there cannot be ‘too much in the engine’
I suspect you have a crankcase pressure issue. Either no ventilation or excessive piston blow-by.

Re: Powerless!
Hi James, Thanks for the reply. The oil came out of the car, not the carburetor. It squirted out of the bottom of the engine, through any place it could  To be honest, I did just clean out the carb and air filter, jets, etc. The car ran fine up until it was placed under duress and then I think...

Powerless!
I have a '61 2 door which had a problem with sudden engine problems with oil being pushed out of the car when the car is under load. It transpires that this was caused by too much engine oil creating pressure. Now, the car has a new carb, etc but is still not able to accelerate and has no power. Cou...

Re: Seem to have caused a starting problem!
Thanks for this. There is fuel in the float chamber and the car can be started by putting my hand over the air inlet and plenty of fuel gets sucked into the engine. The engine then goes straight to high revs and seems to build up pressure in the crankcase and jets out oil underneath. I seem to be ei...

Re: Seem to have caused a starting problem!
Sure, I replaced it with a new one. Is there some adjusting that may be needed?

Re: Seem to have caused a starting problem!
I changed the carb as the car has a replacement 1098 engine but had the original carb and air filter which needed to be changed. Under load, not enough air was being drawn into the engine and this built up oil pressure and subsequently jetted out and overheated. Could you tell me what the 'main jet'...

Seem to have caused a starting problem!
Hi, So to solve the overheating problem I fitted a HS2 SU carb and air filter. The carb was second hand, so I cleaned it, fitted a new jet and float. Now tha car won't start. :-( It turns over but only bursts into life if fuel is dribbled down the carb. The fuel pump is fine, there is no blockage in...

Re: Overheating and venting oil
OK, so air is going into the engine OK, but there is some slight resistance. Sorry to be so useless but before I order parts (wrongly) could someone point me in the direction of the bits I need. I would like yo keep the carb the same , primarily as its working fine and the cost. So I need... Early r...

Re: Overheating and venting oil
The filler cap is vented. The DIY compression test showed that the draw from the engine doesn't change when the engine is being revved.

Re: Overheating and venting oil
Thanks again and here's what I know...I have written the answers next to most of the questions. 1) Why was the work done? Presumably the exhaust had blue smoke when the engine was running and possibly a high oil consumption? Yes, that's right! [/b] 2) The brakes seem OK but they were very worn and h...

Re: Overheating and venting oil
That's interesting, I did wonder if the parts bin had been plundered when putting it all together. It perhaps doesn't help that you seem to have the later engine with the closed breather system allied with an early carburettor and manifold, so that you have neither one system nor the other?

Re: Overheating and venting oil
After it has blown oil, the dipstick level is down, so the engine oil needs filling up again.

Re: Overheating and venting oil
I have booked it in for a compression test next week. I don't think oil is coming from the gearbox. When it blows oil it definately comes from the engine as it needs refilling.

Re: Overheating and venting oil
Thank you everyone and so sorry for the confusion, I am no expert and so don't really know what I'm talking about, however here goes... 1. I am now not sure. What happens is that all is fine until after about 1o minutes of faster driving, such as on an A road or motorway. I'm a very careful driver s...
