Re: How’s this for a crankshaft?
Amazing. Can you imagine how they clocked the shaft with the dti. They are using a 4 jaw chuck and a centre on the tail stock. This looks good for the main bearings, but what kind of machine could machine the big end journals. The offset is huge. The face plate looks like it has the radius. Whats go...

Re: 1098 clutch in 948 gearbox
Don't forget the 1/4 balance mark on the flywheel. Not sure how important it is when we change flywheels of different sizes, but the mark is something to consider. I always ensure that this is correct when I rebuild engines. On the matter of the split screen, I once fitted a 1098 gearbox with the lo...

Re: Distributor drive removal tool.
Just use the engine steady. Its nice and long.
The tappet cover bolt is just a little to short. You can only hold the bolt head and you run the risk of dropping the whole thing into the sump, if you are very unlucky.

Re: Eye bolt bushes
I'm thinking it doesn't matter! Tap the rear arm back on the T bar splines till it clears the flange bmc mentions it here, it dosent matter..... the torsion bar can be removed with the eye bolt still in the chassis, as long as the eye bolt socket is free to rotate and you have moved the cast iron a...

Re: Eye bolt bushes
I think the nut you are trying to undo is the outer eye bolt nut on the eye bolt pin. If you undo the tbar from the rear cross member and slide the small height adjuster arm forward along the rear of the tbar it will give some free movement. Also take out all of the associated washers around that ar...

Not sure of your problem, but you can get a 948 clutch cover with 9 pressure springs rather then 6. I think they were used on mg's

Re: Timing cover oil seal
I put the pully wheel into the oil seal first,(oil seal already fitted to the cover) and them put the pully wheel on the crank, do the bolts up on the cover. It will always be centered then. I have turned a tool to extract and insert the oil seal using a bench vice. It supports the cover as it extra...

Re: Removing front shock absorbers
you need to disconect the lower arm and lower trunion then the whole thing will be lose and the top trinion will fall off the top pin. Top top pin will still be stuck on the shock. Then take the shock off ( with pin) as bmesscos says by working the pin throught the hole where the arm passes through ...

Re: Backplate Fixing Bolts
Nuts on the outside as the factory intended it to be. The lock washers bit nicely into the leg casting, not the thin back plate. Also the rust from the harsh environment will stop them undoing. There are probably another 1000 reasons that only the designers will know. Always do things the correctly ...

Re: wipers too extited!
This has nothing to do with what you have done, but there a 3 different types of wheel in the motor. It sound like you have a 120 degree type, fitted to later minors. One of mine does it to. In the future you may try and fit a 100 degree wheel. You can check by taking of the wheel box cover, cleanin...
