Re: sheared off engine fan blade

is that something relatively easy to replace myself? i've only just got it back from the damn garage!!!! btw, the sound goes away as soon as some revs are put into the engine... depress the accelerator a little and the sound disappears. will driving it for a while in its current state cause any harm...

Re: sheared off engine fan blade

ok so i have now replaced the blade and today took it for a run. seems to drive fine, run fine... however... now the fan assembly makes a terrible racket, rattling away at idle. there appears to be a tiny bit of play in the fan assembly where the fan is bolted with the four bolts to the spinning bit...

Re: sheared off engine fan blade

thanks for the advice... do you think i could replace it with 2 new blades... so that i create a 4 bladed fan? any benefit? i've read it cools better... but then perhaps it is overkill on my '69 ex BT van!!! it was just one side of the 2 bladed fan that sheared off... the other one is still attached...

sheared off engine fan blade

i was driving home yesterday and i heard a horrible clang from the engine compartment... then my gearbox seemed to go funny as well. i was doing about 55mph and obviously i immediately took my foot off the gas and coasted to a stop on the hard shoulder. turned the engine off and opened the bonnet. c...

Re: starter not turning over;but then it did?

thanks for the advice. it may have been the starter motor caught up in the flywheel... that has happened on my vw camper and to unlodge it you put the van into third and roll it backwards a few meters. i see in the haynes manual for a minor it says to put it into gear and then rock the vehicle back ...

starter not turning over;but then it did?

parked on a hill and went off for a nice day in bath. came back to van, turned key... lights on dash came one (red/amber) but then when key was turned fully, nothing from the starter. it didn't turn over. just nothing. then i turned it off. tried again, nothing. fortunately, i was parked on a hill f...

Petrol Fuel Treatment/Injector&Carb cleaner

can you put this stuff (i think it's red, in a red bottle... by Redex and other makers) into a moggy fuel tank and does it actually produce any benefit for these old bangers? i use it in my '76 vw camper and it seems to help it a little but was wondering if it's any use putting it in my newly acquir...

Radiator; should it have water along its base?

the radiator in my moggy appears to have water in the shallow channel that runs along the base of it... when you look down it from overhead, there is a lip on the engine side of the radiator and i noticed it had water in it... does this mean the rad is leaking? i checked the fluid level and it was d...

Loss of power, then stall... but then normal again?

Hi all. Was driving in our '69 van 1098cc and i was in 4th and accelerating when it just sort of died... the power dropped to nil, and the car coasted to a stop. then it stalled. i restarted it... and when i put the accelerator down it died again, then stalled out. then i waited a few seconds... sta...

Re: fitting van doors

did either of you sort this out? i have a '69 van and my driver's side rear door sags a bit... and rests on the valance down underneath, causing stress on it. the lower hinge appears to be separating a bit in the middle, so the brass ball bit inside is visible. i am not sure if i'm supposed to tight...

Re: Rear Door Hinges (Van)

i saw that on ebay yesterday... but not sure if it's just an adjustment problem on my existing one or if it's knackered and should be replaced... see how this one on ebay is tight and there is no gap at the join in the middle... well mine spreads up and down and there is a bulge... a round end of me...

Rear Door Hinges (Van)

i have a '69 van... my right hand side door lower hinge appears to be separating between the join... and what appears to be a "ball" or rounded bit of of metal is now visible between the gap... i have tried tightening the nut at the base of the bolt but it's not really moving and i can't s...

Re: HELP - lost reverse, and 1st & 2nd too when it does find it

hi all firstly, thanks a lot for all the helpful comments. i took it apart again yesterday after getting stuck in reverse yet again... and took the spring out of the hole that i put in initially to try to stop the rattle. bolted it back up, and managed to get the thing functioning properly again... ...

Re: HELP - lost reverse, and 1st & 2nd too when it does find it

i genuinely don't think the spring is doing much to affect things. as for "finding the correct gap" for it to go into, all i see in there is a cup into which the end of the lever goes into... and it goes into it. but when i try to move through the gears with the clutch depressed, i can't g...

HELP - lost reverse, and 1st & 2nd too when it does find it

hi all i have now owned our minor for a grand total of 3 days. it's a 1969 van. i drove it back from sussex where i bought it and there was a horrible rattle coming from the gaiter area under the shift lever. some nice peeps on here told me it was a plate that holds down the shifter (3 bolts) and th...

Re: Car lighter socket

if you cut off the end (the plug part) of the multi socket unit in the image above, doesn't that mean you've also cut out the fuse in the plug section? doesn't it need a fuse in it for safety? and which point is the best part of the wiring loom to connect it to the positive live source?

gear lever noise

i have a 1098 morris van. it's a 1969 ex-BT van. i've got a horrible vibration induced rattle that becomes deafening in fourth at any speed over 50mph and it comes from the gear lever. if i apply a bit of pressure to the lever with my finger around it, the sound can be reduced or elimated, but obvio...
