Re: ignation warning light will not go out
If the ignition light is on all the time then the white lead must be getting power without being switched. This could arise if it has been connected to the same terminal on the ignition switch as the feed; or if it has been connected to completely the wrong place. I suggest that you get the wiring d...

Re: ignation warning light will not go out
green/yellow should be blocked oil filter warning light. The ignition (no charge warning) light should have a white feed on one side, switched by the ignition, and a thin brown/yellow going to the alternator, via the connector block. It sounds as though someone has been fiddling with your wiring har...

Re: Please Help!
Yes, later cap is a straight swap. Did the car run OK before you changed points etc? You have set the gap (to what? It should be 15 thou) but have you also set the timing after setting the gap? Is the vacuum unit connected and working? Lack of power arises from several areas, so also consider tappet...

Re: public liability insurance
This is quite normal and acceptable. Public Liability is the same as Third Party; BUT - check with your insurer. Make sure that you describe the event correctly - a static vehicle display on a field is likely to be covered, a "rally" will to many suggest tearing through woods across countr...

Re: ignation warning light will not go out
If you have routed the green/yellow to earth, then the appropriate warning light will stay on, but only with the ignition on. You previously reported that a warning light was on "all the time", even with ignition off. We seem to be covering old ground as between us, we've suggested wrong w...

Re: Installing Vacuum Gauge
If you have a standard manifold then you need to remove it from the engine and then drill and tap a hole to suit the nozzle that should come with the gauge. Essential to remove the manifold in order to avoid swarf dropping into the engine. If your manifold has been previously tapped and then a bolt ...

Looks like any Traveller joint that's more than ten years old. Filling now will prevent water ingress.

Re: 5 speed Sierra clutch problem.
I don't know about the kit from ESM, but when I fitted the kit from Birmingham, it uses the standard Minor flywheel, pressure plate, release bearing, fork, and actuating gear; the friction plate is from the Sierra. If the clutch won't release, the most likely problem is with the fork - it should be ...

Re: ignation warning light will not go out
Alan, has there been any other work done recently? Do you have an oil filter head with a switch to indicate a blocked filter, and have you changed the oil filter? Just thinking laterally, that if the speedo has been out, or other wires moved, it's possible that the glowing ignition light is actually...

Daisy May, thanks for the note, but you are referring to a dynamo, and this thread is about an alternator, there is no external voltage regulator.

Re: Heater on off switch
If you look at the wiring diagram in the manual, you'll see where the heater is connected. If it a standard Minor heater that you're fitting (and which year) or another make? Basically, you want a fused ignition switched feed to the switch, then switch to heater motor, and then probably an earth fro...

More prone to chaffing and damage - it's hidden under the carpet, and people hoes will keep scuffing it. Surprisingly, under the car is a pretty good location, as long as you get the route right.
