Re: Trafalgar Blue

I appreciate this thread was a long time ago, but has anybody found a supplier of neat cellulose in the later 'deep sea' greeney-blue version of Trafalgar? I repainted my engine bay today, and discovered that there are indeed two VERY different shades of Trafalgar! https://scontent.flhr4-2.fna.fbcdn...

Re: Thread sizes

Thanks Phil The specification of the threads is and has been the bane of Morris Minor owners for many years. Boy did I learnt that today! I took the legs to my local friendly engineering workshop. They measured all 4 threads on both legs (only one was suspect) and confirmed the original thread as 0....

Re: Thread sizes

Hi All, Can anybody confirm the standard thread size for the lower trunnions (both clock-wise and anti-clockwise). I am assuming these are a BSF thread, but cannot find a specification anywhere. I need a suitable die to confirm whether my king pin or new (!!) lower trunnion is at fault. I am suspect...

Re: towing with an a frame

On a related note, this photo I first saw a few years ago is a particularly excellent example of complete ignorance to the rule "The gross weight of the trailer must not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle" http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn318/Roveringfree/ZEmilytowing3Litr...

Re: towing with an a frame

^^ That's correct in practice for 99% of scenarios, and the best rule of thumb to follow. Although as ever there are nuances to the law. It is only permissible to tow a car with an A-frame if it is the subject of a recovery operation, and naturally that will be subject to the discretion of the plod ...

Re: misfiring

I'd suspect the carburettor. Sticking needle, piston, crud in the jet, etc. Whizz the lid off the float chamber and blow the jet through. Worth checking in there anyway.

Re: misfiring

I'd suspect the carburettor. Sticking needle, piston, crud in the jet, etc. Whizz the lid off the float chamber and blow the jet through. Worth getting the piston out for a good clean anyway. If everything is fine in there, it's likely to be a vacuum leak somewhere - either an inlet port (unlikely) ...

Re: The Distinctive Sound of a Morris Minor

Yes, although that was the only significant introduction with 5-speeds before the 70s. And that was a transmission in sump arrangement, which in itself was a dead-end diversity and not adaptable - at best a curiosity. Widespread adoption of conventional end-on gearboxes didn't begin for many years. ...

Re: The Distinctive Sound of a Morris Minor

Well, since I posted with my questions the general route has been towards the exhaust, but thanks Chipper for your comment about the 1275 engine still sounding the same. For me, I love the whiney sound which - to those audio experts out there - gets up to about 1khz when I'm at the top of 3rd gear ...

Re: Daily use classics, very rare now.

My Rover 2000 is a daily driver and only (functioning) car. Cover about 4000 miles a year, which is nothing mammoth, but it's all that driving requires of me as I live so close to work that it's quicker on the train. If a part that won't last long goes on a car that isn't used much then it doesn't s...

Re: More Power Please

There are few underlying issues that i'll mention first. There is a nauseating whine coming from either the gearbox, diff or both. Not entirely sure. Also, when in Idle/Neutral it sounds as if the clutch is slightly engaged as when you depress the clutch pedal it goes quiet? Hi Dave, Have you drive...

Re: De-Coke needed?

Hahahaha - you could probably have cleared the 'coke' with some water injection Water injection is something I've always wanted to try but never got round to. I rebuilt my Rover engine a few years ago and cover a reasonable motorway mileage. I had the head off last year to change the little end bea...

"Silver" wheel paint

Does anybody have a paint code or very close common shade of paint to match the "silver" wheels of post-66 cars?
Am looking to match it quite closely. Looks more grey to me. Any suggestions gladly received. Thanks

Also I am upgrading the engine from 948 to 1098 does this determine a particular speedo is needed. The dif was upgraded by the previous owner,so will the affect it? Thankyou again I am still a novice on this car. Provided the gearbox hasn't been changed, the speedo won't be affected by the engine ch...

Ah I see. Is this so the wheel doesn't slide forwards when in situ? In other words, to give the spare wheel retaining bracket something to brace against when the wheel is in situ?

Does anybody have a picture? Am refitting the boot floor in a few weeks so will add it to the list of jobs. Thanks

Re: What/where does this do/go?

Same place as this, and I haven’t found out where it goes either. :-? When I posted a pic of this some time ago it was suggested under the floor somewhere. I’ve still got mine on the shelf so if you get an answer let me know. :D I will do, thanks! :) It was in the boot by the fuel tank, but the woo...
