"If I recall correctly, a warning light for indicators is required for the MOT, so you must have one of those."
My daughter's warning light was not working but the Minor passed the MOT test because the clicking sound was audible!

Windscreen washer problem
About 1 week ago I was checking everything prior to booking an MOT test and I found that the windscreen washer was not working. I have since replaced the manual pump, the tubing and the non-return valve but still cannot get the washer to work. If I suck water up via the tube which goes from the pump...

Re: Crankcase breather pipe
If you have the open to air crankcase breather you don't need the vacuum port on the carb so you could block it off and see if that improves the running.

Re: Crankcase breather pipe
I think you are right, the port on the carb is for the later crankcase breather with a mesh filled canister attached to the front tappet chest cover. You might have the earlier open crankcase breather pointing down the side of the engine to air.

Re: Vibration and Ping!
Well, having replaced the propshaft U/Js the vibration and ping has disappeared :D However, the front U/J moves slightly in the yolk which suggests wear in the yolk :( If the vibration returns then it looks like a new (second hand) propshaft will be required. I'll leave it for now and see how it goes.

Thanks for all the replies/suggestions.
I shall replace the propshaft U/Js next week and let you know if that cures the problem.

Vibration and Ping!
I have owned my latest Traveller for about 4 months and am experiencing slight vibration between Drive and Overrun. There is no vibration when the engine is driving or braking (overrun), only in between the two. There is also an occasional metallic Ping sound when moving off from stationery. Could t...

BMC Rosette
Did BMC put the BMC rosette on cars when they left the factory? If so where would they have been placed on Morris Minor Travellers?

Re: Engine breather
So long as you have good crank case ventilation - venting to atmosphere is more than adequate for an engine in good condition. So now I'm thinking it might be easier to get a tappet chest cover with the vent pipe to air down the side of the engine and a rocker cover with a vent pipe to connect to t...

Re: Engine breather
Thanks to all who have replied.
So, firstly I need to clean out the breather/oil separator canister and replace the wire wool (with metal pot scourer?) and then I plan to connect it to the inlet manifold via a 1/8" restrictor. Will this give me the required negative pressure to avoid oil leaks?

Re: Engine breather
I can't see a vent on the carb except the connection to the vacuum advance/retard on the distributor. Does this mean I need a new carb and a new rocker cover and a PCV? On my previous car with a 10MA engine the breather pipe on the rocker cover was connected to the air filter. If the breather is &q...

Engine breather
My recently purchased Traveller had a serious oil leak. So far I have replaced the rocker cover gasket and rubber grommets but I am uncertain about the crankcase breathing system. I know that the rocker cover and oil filler cap are non standard but the cap has a pin hole vent. The engine No. is 10V/...

In the second week of December 2012 I replaced the Brake Light Switch on my daughter's 1965 2-door Saloon. In the third week of August 2013 my daughter was stopped by the police because her brake lights weren't working. They realised that she didn't know about the failure so they escorted her for th...

Re: BBC Winterwatch - 1963 'The big freeze'
I remember the big freeze very well. My sister and I set off from Cardiff, South Wales to Harrow, Middlesex (now Greater London) after Christmas in my Morris Minor. It had just started snowing so we phoned the AA to ask if it would be safe to travel. We were told that it would be OK and that the app...

Re: Traveller Finished
Your Traveller looks superb. Now, you will need a new project to occupy your time for the next 2 years. You will also need some money to fund the new project so how much will it cost me to buy this Traveller?
