Re: NZ Traveller Restoration
They say every cloud has a silver lining. A good friend of mine has a bit of a car collection and was bemoaning the fact that one of his cars is not getting used enough and is needing some TLC and some regular use. He has offered me the car for as long as I have the space. One could call it a Morris...

Re: NZ Traveller Restoration
Sad news everyone - my Traveller was rear-ended about 3 weeks ago and has unfortunately been written off. Although the damage doesn't look too bad, it's kinked the floor under the back seat and even separated the cross member welds! Insurance has paid me out and I have sold the wreck to an enthusias...

Re: NZ Traveller Restoration
Interior floor now stripped of all bitumen based sealant. Now time to seam seal, add sound deadening sheets to firewall and coat with Wurth Stoneguard (gearboxcover already done). BTW, done over 1000kms since getting it back on the road - apart from a dodgy fuel pump early on, no problems whatsoever...

In that case I had better put the "Brute Force and Ignorance" toolkit aside!

Re: NZ Traveller Restoration
Yeah - I've bought a lot of stuff off ESM but with the freight costs to New Zealand, sometimes it just isn't viable. This one cost me about $4nz worth of panel board the same for the vinyl to cover it. I'll be buying seat covers and door panels from either ESM or Newton Commercial as I want the genu...

Re: NZ Traveller Restoration
Made myself a new parcel tray today - have now also cut the vent holes and fitted it to the car. Has anyone else had problems with the width of the support bar and the angle of the end brackets? I modified mine a bit and have mounted the bar a bit higher than standard. Now have to fit and upholster ...

Re: Traveller drip moulding/rain gutter
Hi CJ, I am about to replace the gutters on my traveller as well - and I agree with Mark, Neil MG has posted some great photos and description of the procedure. I must admit that its one of those jobs that I'm reluctant to start but I know that it has to be done! Keep us posted on how you get on. Ch...

Took the Traveller to work today - thought it was a good opportunity to take some under-body photos in my training workshop.[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1418366912_14231 [/frame][frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1418366932_14231 [/frame][frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?s...

Re: Correct oil capacity 1098cc Minor engine
Thanks all - yes its a 5 litre can.
I'll put another 200ml in to get it to 3.7 and will set the dipstick height to match - job done!

Correct oil capacity 1098cc Minor engine
Hi All, Can anyone confirm the correct oil fill capacity (after sump drain and filter replacement) for a 1098cc Minor engine? I have checked various sources and as they say "a man with 2 clocks never knows the true time"! Some references say 6 pints (3.4l), another says 6.5 pints (3.7l) an...

Re: Gearbox stuck in gear
Hi Bmcecosse, I tend to agree with you - as the gearbox is one part that I have not stripped, inspected and reassembled. I will probably have to bite the bullet and take out the box - my suspicion is that the interlock pin between 1/2 and 3/4 shaft has been omitted when the box was last assembled. O...

Gearbox stuck in gear
Hi All, I have had a problem that has occurred twice since I have had my Traveller back on the road. When first starting the car and selecting neutral, I have found that the gearshift has allowed the gearbox to lock in 2nd while also allowing another gear to be selected. In other words, if I let the...

I know this will upset some, but having worked for BMW for 22 years, I had to temporarily make the worlds first M Minor! Dont worry purists - the M badge is now back in my tool box.[frame][/frame]

Re: NZ Traveller Restoration
After many years of being off the road, my Morrie passes its Warrent of Fitness test (roadworthy inspection) on its first attempt and is now registered, fully insured and has been driven to work! Now I just need to finish the roof gutters and do a complete interior![frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage...

Re: A few Morries in a shed!
Yeah, there is a pile of vans outside gently decomposing themselves - and as far as I know, he doesn't sell anything. He told me that he has 40 grandkids and has a 4-door minor for each of them when he passes on!

A few Morries in a shed!
Had an hour to kill yesterday before catching a flight from Napier to Auckland. A colleague of mine said "you should go and see Ian, he's got a few Morries in his shed" - lets just say it's bit more than a few..... www.britishcarmuseum.co.nz[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=141539...

Re: NZ Traveller Restoration
Went to "pick-a-part" on Wednesday as I had heard they had 2 Morris Minors - found the cars, confirmed that the blue one had excellent rear shocks and linkages, and planned to come back in the weekend when I wasn't dressed in business attire. Turned up at 3:00pm today to be told "we'v...
