I would be happy to take a set of labels when ready. Let me know costs in due course.

Re: MM Ring gear
Phil, I have tried one Morris 8 supplier but not your suggestion. Mine says the prewar 8 is not the same as the MM. Will try yours in the morning. Liammonty, thanks for prompt reply. I was thinking I might get to a wider knowledge base. Then I saw an advert for one in the current Magazine which arri...

MM Ring gear
Hello
I have an MM which has a well worn ring gear on the flywheel, to the point where it really should be replaced.
Can anyone help with supplier and fitter please.
ESM are my local supplier for all things Minor, but they can't help.
Thanks in hope

www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com do positive earth light boards for the Lucas MM rears. I fitted these to mine to reduce the load across the switch and they work well.

Rob You might try a friendly waterjet cutter. If you have an original they will be able to scan it into their computer and cut from there, either pos or neg. depending on which way you need. I recently had a new plate for a milestone outside our house made and while talking to the waterjet guy he cu...

Dunk the rusty ones in phosphoric acid overnight. The acid is used in animal milking parlors so try a friendly farmer. The acid will remove the rusty metal and then phosphate the now clean metal underneath.

6 volt car batteries are readily available here in UK - internet. Have just purchased one for a 1929 Ford truck which is all 6v. It was pricey though -£90. Volvos and VW Beatles used 6v well into the '50s

Re: 918 Side Valve help
Hi Pleased to hear about your MM. I find your top speed not unreasonable, much depends on wind direction!! Seriously, timing is critical, I find the smallest tap on the distributor can make all the difference. So find a convenient hill and persevere with small adjustments until you find the optimum....

Re: Engine mount replacement
I and a MM owning mate have last week had his engine out for inspection and change of crank shaft seals, and also replaced the engine mounts. We got these from ESM. The thread on one side was strange, to start the nut wouldn't go on but with some persuasion it did. Further down the thread it rotated...

Hi. Over the past 20-30 years there has been a marked reduction in the number of chromium platers in this country. Environmental problems etc. The business has moved "offshore", lots to places like Turkey! I tend to think that anyone remaining is probably OK. BUT the surest way is to find ...

Re: I'm in trouble.
Not being funny but you might just try a left-handed drill, if you can find one about the right size, and try changing the angle from side to side etc. If the screw can be started then it will wind out. I had a problem with the locating pin coming out of the flat plate, the MIG sorted that out with ...

Re: Anyone Know about Zinc Plating at home
Hi
Can you see UK e-Bay? There are several kits for zinc plating. Take your pick!
I looked at the first one and it appears to be comprehensive. I would think it is ideal for nuts & bolts and small parts (my background is in electroplating!!).

I seem to remember being told that ESM "do them upstairs"!! so I assume this is at their works. Must say I cannot see why they cannot overhaul yours, even if its as a special deal. Try some arm twisting because they are normally very helpful.
All you have to do is attach labels etc.

Re: Chroming that lasts
As already mentioned copper was used in the early days of electroplating as an under-layer. BUT it was then polished mechanically. This would be horrendously expensive these days, and requires great skill and the arms of an ape! Then one layer of nickel was plated, and again polished. Chrome was int...

Re: Adding caustic soda to water to clean radiator
I would give the rad a good flush out with clean water. Then fill with rain water plus antifreeze. Rain water is soft and doesn't have all the nasty things rads hate. The antifreeze must be the blue variety for old engines, not the newer orange/red type. Antifreeze has anti-corrosion chemicals added...
