Our moggy is used every day, just 12 miles a day, but it is cheaper than a modern car and just as reliable.
The past is the way to the future.

Re: pressure in my rocker cover
Thanks guys,
I could do without striping the head this weekend.
Ignition and dizzy, tomorrow to trace the intermittent misfire. Then ensure engine oil breather tubes clear.

pressure in my rocker cover
My wife's Moggy Humphrey has recently started "misfiring" so I have been methodically servicing the ignition and fuel system. But today I noticed something I am not sure about. When I removed the oil cap to listen to the engine, tappets, with the engine running, I noticed quite a bit of pr...

Re: What should I do? Cry? Anit Rattle Spring
This spring I found is 6.5mm by 15mmles wrote:There are 2 sizes of spring used in the gearbox 1 is approx 6mm diameter the other approx 3mm if the former probably been accidentally dropped in, if the latter more of a worry as it's fitted to one of the sliding hubs along with a small (4mm) ball bearing.

What should I do? Cry? Anit Rattle Spring
Today I changed the gearbox oil. When clearing up I found a small spring I think it is an anti rattle spring. What should I do? The car drives very well. I am assuming a previous owner dropped the spring in and probably the plunger too. I have not found the plunger. Should I cry? Leave well al...

Thanks for the help people
I got the blighter off

A final note to this.
Some cheap bearing pullers made this job much easier.

Re: Track Rod End and lock nut seized to steering tie rod.
They can be tight - having been neglected for many years - but Penetrating oil overnight + blow lamp should be impossible to resist. Try try again! And when you assemble - a smear of grease will make it easier next time........ Thanks for the reassurance. I will try again after it fails the MOT tom...

Track Rod End and lock nut seized to steering tie rod.
Oh Dear SAS Shepshed, had a Moggy gaiter, which was great. :) Sadly, the track rod lock nut is seized to track rod end. :( Nothing seems to work. Tried, brute force, long adjustable plumbers spanner. Penetrating oil. Heating with blow torch. I would welcome tips please on getting the blighter off. C...

Re: Steering rack boot
Thanks for that, thought it might be, but that helps the local parts place ought to have one for a mini, or a compatible on at any rate. Just changed some eye bolt bushes, getting the rear lower arm back off the spigot is a bit of a swine. Seems counter intuitive to be braying the car with a heavy h...

Steering rack boot
My car is in bits, getting ready for MOT on Wednesday, I have no time to get to a Moggy Specialist tomorrow.
I need to replace a steering rack boot.
Are they the same as for an old BMC Mini or late model MG midget?
Help would be appreciated

Re: Fitting new front hub bearings
Thanks guys and gals. I contacted the supplier and followed the instructions from the the bearing supplier. I feel the one that broke up on the car was fitted the wrong way around. But my mechanic mate does not think so. Are the internal matting surfaces tapered, or parallel. I feel a set of pullers...

Re: Fitting new front hub bearings
Makes sense. Thanks Once again Apparently the thrust face is usually the side engraved with the part number. One book states the thrust, engraved sides, should face the spacer tube. I will contact the company who supplied the parts to see what they say. When I dismantled the stub to change the truni...

Fitting new front hub bearings
I am being given conflicting advice and need clarification. I am about to fit new bearings to a stub axle on my moggy. Which way round do they go? Thick sides both towards the king pin. Inside bearing thick towards the king pin, smaller outside bearing thick side to the nut. Your advice would be app...

Re: Realy Slow wipers
Okay, Work Done. Striped the whole thing down. Not too difficult. Found the root of the problems. Firstly water ingress via seal broken on drivers side wheel box, resulting in rusted and stiff wheel box. Secondly grease in the first 10" of trunking gone very stiff. Cleaned everything with parra...
