I got the blighter off
Two hammers, one used as an anvil.
Large spanner and a stilson on the rod.

Not easy peasy, but off it came.

Car now ready for MOT retest.

A final note to this.
Some cheap bearing pullers made this job much easier.

They can be tight - having been neglected for many years - but Penetrating oil overnight + blow lamp should be impossible to resist. Try try again! I need to replace a steering rack boot.

Are they the same as for an old BMC Mini or late model MG midget?

Thanks guys and gals. I contacted the supplier and followed the instructions from the the bearing supplier. I feel the one that broke up on the car was fitted the wrong way around. But my mechanic mate does not think so. Are the internal matting surfaces tapered, or parallel. I feel a set of pullers...

Okay, Work Done. Striped the whole thing down. Not too difficult. Found the root of the problems. Firstly water ingress via seal broken on drivers side wheel box, resulting in rusted and stiff wheel box. Secondly grease in the first 10" of trunking gone very stiff. Cleaned everything with parra...
