Re: Ted the Traveller

Yikes! It's amazing what horrors can lie beneath a great looking Traveller!

I'm about to start on mine (and expecting similar). I'm hoping my floorpan can look like yours in a few months time.

Re: Hole in my floor....

Gaaah... Now I'm not sure. I don't know when the panels will turn up anyway. I'll pm you! Also, can anyone tell me the best way to clean up under the floor and the interior? Preferred methods? I used a drill with a wire brush and a heatgun on my original Morris years ago, so I've been doing that aga...

Re: Hole in my floor....

Hi Matt... That's very kind of you! I actually ordered the floor pans yesterday morning. I used ESM, so that's a relief after your comments on the thicker steel. So I don't know if it's better to weld them in when they arrive, and wait slightly longer for the car, while I've got seats out and carpet...

Re: Brake failure!

I forgot to post an update for this thread, but I did get a new set of brake pipes, but have so far only fitted the two pipes at the back (because I needed to use the car) and then the Morris has been off the road with some floor issues. But I thought it'd be worth showing the failure... http://www....

Re: Hole in my floor....

So my car's been sat in the outbuilding for a few months, getting crapped on by a bunch of baby swallows, with the occasional tootle round the drive. The urgency to sort out the floor was overcome by some silly deadlines and working every weekend (I work from home) and then not needing the car over ...

Re: NORTH WALES CLUB

I'm in North Wales too, with a black 1964 traveller. I work at home most of the time, and it's my everyday car, but it's not been used for a couple of months because it's sat in the garage needing some work on the floor. I'm too busy with work to learn to weld (even though I'd really like to and hav...

Re: Traveller Waist Rail/End Post & Lower Door Rail

Even with saying it's more than possible to splice sections in, if I'd had a bit more cash, I would've done the whole side! :) Time wise, I was worried as much about what removing the wood would reveal (especially welding) as the wood problems. And I was on a very tight budget. But I also bought new...

Re: Traveller Waist Rail/End Post & Lower Door Rail

I replaced a few wood sections on my traveller (waist rail, front pillar and can't rail) and although it was a fiddle, it's all possible. There was a great article in 'Minor Matters' last year that showed details of all the joints, which was very helpful and arrived a few days before I planed the ma...

Re: Hole in my floor....

I took all of the seats and floor carpets out this morning, and gave it all a manual scrub with the wire-brush (don't want to get going with the drill and a wire-brush until I take a bit more out of the car and cover some stuff), and the other side doesn't have a split but is perforated where it mee...

Re: Hole in my floor....

Thanks Dean... I do have some metal in the garage. I bought my Mum and Dad's house after my Dad died following a motorbike accident, and the garage is how he left it, including the Mig welder, a lot of tools (he worked part time in a motor factors), two project cars, and a load of metal! That's the ...

Hole in my floor....

I'd just booked my Morris Traveller in for its MOT on Tuesday next week, but today I've found a hole in the floor just behind the drivers seat (pretty close to where the seat rests on the floor... maybe it's having 16 stone of me bouncing up and down as we trundle along). It's a very small split, a ...

Re: Brake failure!

No point spending money on a special brake bleeding tool when there are two of you, a clean jam-jar and some tubing. Yup, that's how I always did it with my Dad. the trick nowadays would be getting my 7-year-old daughter to stay still long enough. :) Clutch judder may be down to the engine steady b...

Re: Brake failure!

Fails horribly at 56 years and 1 day I believe.......... :) I actually had a brake pipe fail twice on my original Morris Traveller, that I ran in the late 80s, in exactly the same place. In that case I put it down to a faulty copper pipe, which was bought from a local motor factors. The second fail...

Brake failure!

I enjoyed a brake failure on my '64 Morris Traveller today! Luckily I was coasting on an uphill slip road off a dual carriageway, with a nice big gap to the car in front, so dropped a gear and used the handbrake to stop. I had been driving along some shropshire roads, up and down hills and round sha...

Traveller Seatbelts?

Firstly, I know this has been covered lots before, but when I've searched through old threads, I read conflicting stuff and just wanted to ask again to get the current thinking. I've got a 1964 Traveller. I'm ordering seatbelts for the rear, and have gathered that the best belt is the Securon 264, w...

Re: Stripping & resealing traveller wood

If you remove the long, lower metal catch first (which should come away and be attached to the waist capping) and the top wooden piece and rubber, towards the front that stops the rear window sliding forwards, you might be able to get at any screws holding the bottom runner in place. Mine were naile...

Re: Stripping & resealing traveller wood

I've just had the windows out on my traveller and replaced some of the wood.... http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=42771 You shouldn't have to remove any brackets to get the windows or runners out. The only bracket I needed to take off was the one holding the cant rail to the cab at the ...
