Re: Anyone ever heard of a Minor based Kit Car?

What a shame. A friend of mine had been talking about these for years and had always said he would buy one if I found one for him online (was not an internet user). He died last year, but would have snapped that up in a second!

Re: Removing the bumper nuts - long extension bar?

In the past I've use a thick walled hollow bar that can fit over a well fitting spanner and had good success with what seemed like an impossible nut. One of the bars is 3 feet long and made fairly light work of them. Not sure if this one is good practise, but giving it a shock treatment with a ring ...

Re: Current Full Respray Cost

It depends where in the South you are - if anywhere near Cambridge (I guess this is maybe considered more midlands if from the 'proper' south), I'd highly recommend Ian Allen of Minor Services in Witchford. Certainly on the higher cost end, but the paint on our traveller is still looking like new 13...

Brake light switch diameter

Hi all, We have a standard 1971 Traveller and are need of replacing the brake light switch (spade connector type). The replacement that we received looks like a 3/8" thread, however this is too large for the brake union that we currently have installed. Going by my caliper, the size we currentl...

Re: Horn issue

Thank you for your replies. It's a standard '71 traveller. It happened on 3 occasions over the course of the afternoon and into the evening and the same result each time. I went to check your suggestions today and before starting tried the horn with car off, ignition on and with the car fully on and...

Horn issue

Hi all,
Any ideas why our horn works when the car is off, but not when the car is switched on? The m.o.t is on Friday, so last minutes checks and this has come up.

Re: Stuttering at 50+

We had the same issue a few years back. The stuttering disappeared after blowing the jet with the use of an air compressor. A couple of weeks later, the same thing happened and so again we used the air compressor and we’ve not had the stuttering since.

Re: Aerofan (technical tips section of magazine)

I have the heat shield between the float chamber and exhaust manifold, but the bolts sent with the part around the fuel pipe weren’t the correct size and I never ended up asking for the correct ones to be sent out. Another job added to the ‘I must get around to that’ list. Does the fan not also incr...

Re: Aerofan (technical tips section of magazine)

I don’t really think that a Minor needs any enhanced cooling or improvement. Works just fine as it is :D Unfortunately, one of mine needs additional cooling in the hot weather when stuck in a traffic jam to stop fuel vaporisation. No idea why two cars are fine and the other is not. Maybe this aerof...

Thanks for the info. I’ve just stripped and cleaned up a 4-stroke carburettor with the spray cleaner, which had gotten me thinking of trying it on the SU - I’ll save my time 8)

Carburettor service

I’ll be servicing our traveller this week and wondered what the thoughts are on using a carb and air intake spray cleaner whilst leaving the carb on the car - taking the air filter off and spraying it in the intake whilst the car is running. I’ve seen plenty of YouTube videos of people doing this, b...

Re: advice on polish

It will depend on the condition of your paint. If it’s very dull, hazed/ cloudy with scratches I’d agree with KeithL and t-cut. One of our cars needed fairly major detailing last year - including wet sanding with 3000 grit sandpaper, t-cutting and applying Autoglym’s super resin polish with a DA pol...

Re: Failing seat cushions

Aren’t the metal seat bases from an early series ll? I recovered seats some years ago that had those bases and I have a feeling it was either a ‘54 pick up or ‘54 2-door saloon. If so, would the later seat covers fit?

Where did you get your new seat parts from? We replaced our seat webbing straps, squab padding and covers about 5 years ago from ESM and they’re still looking almost as good as new. We’ve only done a couple thousand miles per year though...

Re: pickup door trim

I used Autoglyms leather care balm on mine and after a few applications they came up quite nicely. The first coat was absorbed and didn’t seem to make a huge amount of difference, but by the third coat they looked pretty good. I’m sure that beeswax would likely have a similar results!

Re: Morris making a comeback

The article only states ‘Morris Commercial’, so possibly not ‘Morris’ in its entirety. If Morris and Morris Commercial were owned by the same company, they may sell ‘Morris’ at a later date if sales go well for the new JE Van. Will be interesting to wait and see what they come up with!
