Re: Painting steel, aluminium and fibreglass

Same method as removing it from steel. You dont have to remove it unless its oil based and youre using celly or two pack.Youre just flatting to give a good surface for the new stuff.

Re: Traveller door hinge

Agree with the post above.I recently replaced my bolts with stainless and had to pull the glass channel to remove the bolts.Woodscrews are a no no.

Just undo those you can and rip the fibreglass wing off the others carefully. Then get a molegrip on the screwheads.

Re: Dismantling a 2 Door / Traveler Door

You will definitely need the door off to do the welding at its front end but could leave it in situ until then for alignment purposes.

Re: Paint Prep

Same here, body filler straight onto bare metal. Its probably a good idea for anyone wanting to learn to paint to start with a small item, bike tank, moggy wing etc.Painting a whole car is a different ball game.

Makes it all the more worrying about MOT exempt pre 1960 cars. There will be people that buy them primarily so they don't have to bother about all that safety stuff.

Its easy to get sidetracked with old methods of working(don't get me wrong I'm full of admiration of what was achieved with the tools and resources available at the time). If the technology, tools and materials we use today had been available then they would have been used.
