Re: Interlocking balls
Yes Sleeper you've found me out, they are are 5/16 and are available in abundance from cycle shops. So I bought a packet of dozens for far less than the normal parts folk with postage.

If I remember correctly it was 6kg as standard and the engineer reduced it down to 4.5kg.

Re: Engine Balancing
Sorry to butt in on your conversation.....when I rebuild my engine just for road use I had the flywheel lightened and balanced and also fitted a damper pulley the other end, works well.

Fitting gearbox bearing
This maybe of help to those rebuilding their gearbox. I have a manual downloaded on how to assemble a gearbox but found fitting the first motion shaft and bearing very hard to do, in fact I couldn't do it!. I found it you fit the bearing and clip first from the bellhousing end by heating the casing ...

Re: Mainshaft removal
I have removed the front cover but cannot get the bearing retaining clip out, sits in a shallow recess. I feel it should have a step in the surrounding casing to pry it out, daft design. I was hoping to tap it out once the mainshaft was out., how did you get your bearing clip out.

Mainshaft removal
I bought what appears to be a good spare gearbox and just want to check it over to make sure. Down loaded the PDF manual for assembly but how do you remove the mainshaft, didn't think I could remove it without getting the reverse gear out but I understand now there is a cut out for clearance. The be...

Re: Torsion bar - how slack is slack?
Also I would say make sure the tie rod rubbers have not gone soft and spongy, if so this will put extra wear on the cast iron splines in the arm. Polly bushes are good for this, bit of a tight fit thow.

Re: Brake conversion
Ok thanks for that, I did take a piston out of one cylinder and it was a little mucky. Fitted some new seals to it so it could be all four are getting a slight rusting and sticking.

Re: Brake conversion
Bit of an update on my brake coversion after a while, in the end I went for Wolseley 1500 drums as it was much easier and cheaper. All fitted now but still have a persistent problem of pressure building from time to time, sometimes it's all ok then the peddle will get too hard with almost no play an...

Re: Midget slave thread
I agree, it's just that I've looked at comments on MG sites about leaving a coil of copper tube near the slave cylinder for this reason, also old exported Midgets on utube just look like they have a solid pipe to the slave...odd.

Re: Midget slave thread
Thanks Philthehill for the flexi pipe info, but I still think Mk1 and early Mk2's had a solid pipe to the slave. I'd be happier with some more flexibility at that end so I'll for that rubber clutch pipe.

Midget slave thread
Good evening folks, anyone know what thread size is on an early Midget's (1098 / 1275) clutch slave cylinder. Also it looks like the pipe should be 1/4 not 3/16.

I fitted mine with the engine and gearbox bolted together less the cylinder head. Car on axle stands then pushed the complete assembly undernieth. raised with hoist then bolted engine mounts etc.. in place.

Re: 1963 pull starter cable
If you have a vice then once you have removed the the inner cable, use a hacksaw and cut to the right length. Then take off the sharp edges with round and flat files.

Re: Useing an Ezibleed
When I fitted the Wolseley brakes very little air entered the system as I clamped the flexi pipes and a plastic bag on the filler pot. On rebuilding the brake system four year's ago I did if I recall having trouble bleeding it, but then I had no remote fluid pot fitted. I believe I pressurized the M...

I'll check them, I've tried to bleed three with the same result but they all could be blocked. Thanks.
