Taxation
Hi all My 1962 minor is ready for the road. It has been on SORN for a number of years. It is classified as an Historic Viehicle on the registration document. Advice please. Is there a DVLA form to get it back on the road. I have a V112 which is a declaration of exemption from MOT. Is this sufficient...

Re: Coil very hot and difficult starting
I have read somewhere that if you leave the ignition on without the engine running the coil gets hot. I have been leaving the ign on while trying to make adjustments. I will look at fuel next as having problems starting. It starts and runs a few seconds and dies. Electrical side seems to be working....

Coil very hot and difficult starting
Hi all This week got engine running after years of a rebuild. Ran reasonable at the beginning for 10 mins or so. Now very difficult to run. Not sure electrical or carburettor. However, I have noticed that while trying to start engine coil is getting very very hot. Is this right. It is a new Lucas co...

Re: Clap Hand Wiper Issue
I have recently been faced with the same problem involving clap hands wipers. I had a NOS DR3A motor , great until I finished rebuild and found wipers dissapeared off the screen and into the bonnet. After a lot of investigation found I had a 160 deg gear in the unit. Even the later cars only had a 1...

Re: wiper motor degrees for late car
I have used a DR3A with 130 deg gear and that has kept wipers within the screen. I did originally have a 160 deg gear and wiper arms were Hitting bonnet and off screen.
The clap hands DR2A used 100 or 110 deg gear.

Antifreeze
Hi all
Just a quick question please. Which is the correct antifreeze to use? There seem to be several types.
Thanks

Re: Wiper motor - angle of sweep
Unfortunately I do not have the original motor. I am starting from scratch.
I understand that the very early DR3 (1961/62) was fitted with 100 deg gear then later ones a 120 deg. I must have a 120.
Is it possible to change the gear if I could get one. Got to do something as no wipers.

Wiper motor - angle of sweep
Hi all I have just come to fit the wiper arms and blades to my rebuilt car. It is a 1962 model with clap hands wiper. However, the wipers go clean off the screen in both directions. I know a Lucas DR3A unit was fitted from car no 939695 and mine is 980342. I picked up a NOS DR3A unit some years ago,...

Thanks simmitc
That certainly makes sense. I have some very thin copper washers that may span the hole.
Thanks for replies

Re: Track rod ends with grease nipples
Sorry perhaps my message wasn’t as clear as it should be. The grease nipple is in tight. However, close to the nipple is a small hole deliberately drilled into track rod, and is about 1/8 inch away from the base of the nipple. It is the same in both track rod ends and seems part of the manufacture. ...

Track rod ends with grease nipples
Hi all, I have just fitted a pair of new track rod ends fitted with grease nipples. However, I have come to put grease in and it comes straight out through a small hole alongside the nipple. Should there be a thin washer under the nipple that would cover the hole, or should I fit one to grease up an...

Re: Fuel tank sender unit
Thanks Declan. Another thing that has come to mind is the type of sender unit. I understand that there are two types of sender. I have a gold face speedo and fuel gauge. I read somewhere that the sender unit changed when black faced speedo and gauge were introduced. Is that correct. I think my sende...

Fuel tank sender unit
Continuing with my restoration I have recently fitted new petrol tank, and a NOS sender unit. Checking the electrics when I turn ignition on the fuel gauge reads full, yet there is no fuel in tank. One thought the tank is bedded in a mastic to seal it to the bodywork. Could I not be getting a good e...

Earth point for rear lights
Hi I have reached the point with the restoration of my 62 saloon to fit the rear light units. I have kept to the 8 way relay unit as I am trying to restore to original spec. Can anyone tell me please where the earth connections for the rear light units attach to the bodywork? I had a vague idea each...
