Re: Fuel gauge

My understanding is that the black gauges are different from the gold gauges. Black uses heated bi-metal pointer, and gold is magnetic coils. Is this true? If so, do they use different senders? Is the voltage stabiliser critical to both types, or only one? If so, which one?

Is there anything to be gained by adding poly liners between the leafs?

Re: 'Clonking noise' When i turned the steering...

It's definitely the caster effect in reverse. There's no play or slop in the steering at the steering wheel or front wheels.

It happens when I back out of the driveway. In reverse the wheels tend to take it to full lock.

Re: 'Clonking noise' When i turned the steering...

Thanks, Phil, but......
It's not a rattle typical of a loose rack. It's definitely a banging when the rack goes full travel and hits the housing. I observed it after removing the gaiter. In the parts diagram, I don't see anything to cushion the impact. Would a new rack have anything to do so?

Re: 'Clonking noise' When i turned the steering...

Boy, I wish Roy (RIP) had gotten an answer to his question. I'm getting the clunking when the rack goes to full travel (bottoms out.) It happens both directions. Doesn't seem to have any means to cushion the stop. Is there anything can be done? New rack?

Re: MA-U-H 180898 engine

Phil When you say the pressed rockers should not be re-bushed, were they bushed originally? I've noticed that my pressed rockers are bushed, but that the oil hole doesn't line up with the hole in the shaft. 20180605_102429.jpg The yellow markers show the oil holes in the shaft, and the white marker ...

Re: Fueling issue

I've "calibrated" my gauge by observing the reading when the tank is empty. Then I put in 2 gallons at a time, and observe where each 1/4 full indicates.

Re: Mmm bit feathered

The camber is bad. I had the same wear on the outside of the tyres. I fixed by shimming the eye bolt away from the frame by the appropriate amount. Check your eye bolt to see if there are shims you can remove. With the weight on the wheels, put a level vertically on the wheel. Try to measure at the ...

Re: Fuel tank how to clean, or is it too far gone?

I've had good luck with a product similar to this one. I don't remember the brand name of the one I used. You can buy the smaller kit for motorcycles which will work fine for the Morris tank. There are you tube's to watch, and the process is a bit tedious, but not difficult. I'm in the US, so look f...

Tire Codes

I replaced the spare from my 60 Traveler. I think it was time. It was a 5.20-14, and looked unused, plenty of tread etc. I found this branded into the sidewall. Old tire data (1).jpg Also, I presume that this code indicates it was manufactured in the 11th week of 1970. Am I correct? Old tire data (2...

Re: Exhaust system recommendations

I had one shipped across the Atlantic for my sedan. Mild steel. I can't get the flare to fit and seal at the manifold. I've tried two different clamps with no luck. This morning I'm off to the auto parts store for some exhaust wrap with which to fashion a gasket of some sort. Next problem is that wh...

Just what I needed. I'm only driving around town in a very flat area, so I'm not worried about the 948 clutch, although I'll look for a 9 spring up until the moment of i installation.
Thanks very large!

moving up to a 1098

I have a 1098 engine available, and my 948 is starting to lose compression. I've scoured the forums searching for compatibility, and here's what I've come away with: If I put my 948 back plate, flywheel and clutch on the 1098, I'll get along fine. I wasn't able to find clear advice on using the 1098...
