Not a early 'A' Series but a BMC 'B' Series. Possibly a 1.8 unit from a commercial vehicle..

Re: Hub identification disc brakes
When fitting the taper bearings to the Minor stub it can requires a spacer washer (or even two spacer washers) between the bearing and nut. The Marina hub nut does not have any castellation's, it is a plain nut and is secured by the castellated locking ring. I suspect that the hub nut used and shown...

Re: What tappet chest gasket do I need?
The fibre washer is not a direct replacement for the neoprene seal no matter what the MOSS site indicates. The bolts are a different length dependent upon the washer/seal used. The bolt can bottom out before clamping the seal if the wrong washer/seal is used. The parts have to be replaced as a set. ...

Re: What tappet chest gasket do I need?
The 1098cc engine has neoprene gaskets and the steel covers have a raised outer edge. The bolts also have rubber seals and cup washers fitted over the seal. The front cover is Pt No: 12A1212 The rear cover is Pt No: 12H941. The gasket for both covers is Pt No: GUG5505 GM The rubber bolt seal is Pt N...

Re: Spark plugs
In many cases the gasket moves out of position when the rocker cover is fitted. Gluing the gasket to the rocker cover helps reduce that happening. Greasing the face of the gasket against the head also helps keep the gasket supple and stops the gasket sticking to the head when the rocker cover is rem...

Make sure that the sealing ring seat in the head is clean and free of crud. Scrape around the seat and then turn the engine over to blow away any crud. As regards the rocker cover gasket - clean the rocker cover gasket seat apply general purpose glue to the rocker cover gasket seat and fit the gaske...

Re: Clutch problem, Borg & Beck pressure plate
The fingers that fit under the pressure pad have to be set up correctly - that is the height of each finger. There may be an underlying problem with the fingers but which is not insurmountable. Removing the pressure pad should quickly show up what is wrong.

I would not go so far as to say no work is required but they are in too good a condition to just throw away.

qty 2 948cc block/crank/pistons assys
Free to a good home I have made an executive decision  and will not be progressing any further on building a uprated 998cc in line 'A' Series engine. The block assys are in good condition, the coolant galleries have been soaked in citric acid and are clean. The better of the two blocks I belie...

Re: A-series 1098 rebuild video (also blocked breather)
If you look down onto the top of the pedestals in the photo immediately above - the impression is of looking down at a bulls head. They were produced in both alloy and forged steel - not sintered. They have scalloped sides which allows for some metal to be removed for rocker alignment. The sintered ...

The grease shown above is suitable as is ordinary Castrol LM grease or similar.
Poly bushes will work with just about any grease.

Re: A-series 1098 rebuild video (also blocked breather)
Because it is easier to have a pedestal with oil transfer hole under one part number than have several variations of pedestals with different part numbers. The extra hole is not expensive to produce. The 'bull head' pedestals in the photo above were made in alloy (chuck them in the scrap bin even th...

Re: Clutch problem, Borg & Beck pressure plate
The pressure plate in the picture above is not scrap it just needs to be set up correctly. It is a job you can do yourself without specialist tools.
Quality control is an issue these days not just with clutches but right across the car spares replacement spectrum.

Re: A-series 1098 rebuild video (also blocked breather)
I may have missed it but was there a reference/comment regarding to moving the No: 1 rocker shaft pillar to the No: 2 position and any issues that may occur? The rocker shaft being used in the rebuild was the later type with the locating peg moved to No: 2 position. The peg was moved by BMC because ...

Re: Clutch fork gaiter
Firstly you do not have a Morris Minor gearbox casing fitted. The standard Morris Minor gearbox casing does not have the two threaded holes which are there to mount a hydraulic slave cylinder for operating the clutch release arm. The aperture in the bell housing for the release lever may be compromi...

Re: Crank rear oil seal
There is no machining needed with fitting the crankshaft rear lip seal but I would steer well clear of fitting a crank rear (lip) seal. Unless the flywheel mounting flange is perfectly smooth or you have fitted a speedy seal sleeve the lip seal may well be torn to shreds very soon after you have sta...
