Re: Clutch Master cylinder used with Toyota 5 speed box

I believe that the Toyota 5 speed conversion done by the Morris Minor Centre for use in a Morris Minor used the clutch release mechanical linkage. The hydraulic clutch release system was used on the MG Midget/Sprite conversion. You can use a master cylinder fitted to the cross member. See photo belo...

Re: Piston

Having a hydraulic clutch on my minor and the slave cylinder being the same as a classic Mini I recognised the slave cylinder from what is visible in the above photo.

Bill That is the main seal of the slave cylinder. The dust seal of the slave cylinder is much larger. See link below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/395196380647?itmmeta=01HWJHXB2ZACMZY64D4Z2EZYR9&hash=item5c038a35e7:g:tqcAAOSwMSxfw-yI&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABAIDWhzUbgU1dnMmsRKEcC6yPzURyL3dTxxv4TtN...

Re: Rear brake shoes

Having just checked the various greases and lubricant I have (at least 10) non of them have a use by or sell by date.
So long as the grease is in a sealed container it will not deteriorate.
I would agree with the argument for regular quality control/testing of lubricants used in the aircraft industry.

Re: Cylinder head refurb

Only the exhaust valve seats need to be changed. That is the old exhaust valve seats cut out and new hardened valve seats pressed into place. The original valves both inlet and exhaust can be refaced. There is no need to replace any valves unless the valve seats are damaged. The valve guides could b...

Re: Rear brake shoes

Correct - the rear wheel bearings are lubricated by the oil in the rear axle. There is a trend to use sealed bearings for the rear hub of a Minor. The sealed bearing is in some ways better than the open seal as crud/metal particles in the axle oil cannot get into the bearing and cause problems. Depe...

Re: Relocating rear spring hangers

The wheel is not necessary in the centre of the wheel arch. As the spring flattens & especially over time the axle moves rearwards and that is why there is a sliding joint to the rear of the gearbox.

Re: Relocating rear spring hangers

Before you do anything I take it that you have measured the distances/location in line with the BMC drawing. ride height 4.jpg Unless you are experiencing handling problems it seems a lot of work to move the spring hangers 25mm. That 25mm should not cause any problems. The only visible difference wi...

Re: Engine Breather Mod

I would suggest that one stainless steel pan scrub is enough. The crankcase fumes need to have easy passage through the pan scrub. Too much pan scrub could restrict the flow of fumes and then you are back to as if the breather was blocked. The pan scrub is there to catch the oil carried in the fumes...

Re: Hydraulic clutch

The kit was supplied with the option of mechanical or hydraulic conversion.
Mechanical for the Minor.
Hydraulic for the MG Midget.
The photo I have of the conversion kit appears to contain a 1275cc MG Midget slave cylinder or similar.

I would recommend using one of the modified unions pictured below. It fits into the pipe from the block to the oil filter. Fitting and accessing the oil switch is easy. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166642222294?itmmeta=01HW2ZNXWVV5JVTMCVVA1WP8NT&hash=item26cca684d6:g:CKkAAOSwaYJl7zgI&itmprp=en...
