Re: 1275 installation clutch release

You have the 1275cc Midget clutch assy fitted. You also have the correct MG Midget clutch release arm which is used with the hydraulic release system. I am not sure how you have attached the mechanical linkage to the hydraulic lever but it appears to work. A photo of the linkage when assembled/attac...

Re: Oil pressure too high

I personally would not worry about the oil pressure especially as it is a rebuilt engine.
No harm will come to the engine with the oil pressure specified above.
If you are worried about the oil pressure take a coil off the oil pressure relief valve spring.

Re: Does the head need to be removed to fit o ring valve oil seals?

I you are going to replace like for like - save yourself some time and effort and leave as is. The small 'O' ring seals are next to useless in stopping oil from going down the valve guide. To do the job properly you need to remove the head and fit the later grooved valve guides to the inlet tracts. ...

Re: 918cc crank pulley

The 918cc SV engine crankshaft pulley is not the same as the OHV 803cc & 948cc crankshaft pulley.
The 918cc pulley is a solid item not the multi piece as shown in the photos above.

Re: 1275 installation clutch release

Before you order anything I would confirm what gearbox you have in the car. As I suggested above check the number stamped on the first motion shaft and if you post that number on here we can confirm the gearbox fitted. A photo of your clutch cover as fitted would be helpful. The 12G169 release arm i...

Re: Fuel smell

The fuel filler cap is vented (and supposed to be) so there will always be a sniff of petrol in that area.
All the cork gasket does is stop the cap rattling against the filler pipe.

Re: 1275cc engine block

I suspect that the 1275cc engine block is out of a Maestro and if it is the block/crankshaft will not be so valuable as say a Marina or Ital because of the machining required to fit to a Minor/Sprite or Midget. A photo of the rear of the crankshaft and the o/s of the block will confirm what vehicle ...

Re: Axle width

If the wheels were covered on the sellers car and the wheels are uncovered on your car and the seller had a standard axle fitted then the seller must have fitted wider wings. 2" wider wings are readily available. I have them fitted to the rear of my Minor.

Re: Axle width

The rim on a 5.5J wheel is placed central about the centre of the wheel whereas a banded wheel usually has the band placed/added to the outer face of the wheel rim. That process will cause the wheel/tyre to protrude past the outer edge of the wheel arch. The width of the axle for a Morris 1000 is th...

It appears that the new UJ is 90 degrees out.
Turning the UJ by 90 degrees so as to align the grease nipple with the recess should cause no problems as regards balance.

Re: 1098 Carb

There are no spindle bushes in the body of a SU HS2 carb.
They can be retro fitted by utilising the repair kit supplied by Burlen fuels.
Fitting the bushes is not a complicated job but does require care.

Re: O ring valve stem seal fitment

As regards the 'O' ring type seal you might as well leave them off for all the good they do. The 'O' ring goes over the top of the valve stem and slides down into the bottom of the valve stem collet groove. The collets hold the seal to the bottom of the collet groove. The seal that does work is the ...
