Re: Gear lever removal
You need to compress the spring item 108 and knock out the pin at the bottom. To remove the box from the car just take the top off and cover it with a blank made from cardboard to keep the dirt out. Put it in neutral first. Watch out for the selector rod springs when you undo the top of the box cove...

Many thanks, if you have looked at the policy renewal paperwork it's a bit ambiguous. I am glad I asked.

Footman James Insurance
Has any one noticed that if you have a road traffic accident, you will not be recovered by the RAC. Or am I reading the Motor breakdown cover wrongly? It states in the "What is not insured note" point 2 Anything which is not a breakdown eg. a road traffic collision. So if you get shunted i...

Re: Car painting with spray cans
Any good synthetic coach finish, two people with Hamilton perfection 2" brushes. Preparation is everything. Ready with a tacky rag, wait until it rains, temperature between 50 and 55 deg. F in old money. Push the car outside and get stuck in.( You need 2 people to keep the edges going when you ...

Re: NEC classic car show
A really nice day, EYTCC coach from Hull , door to door £13, entrance £25, tea and a chat with some old friends at the Morris Minor and Morris register stands, great show, just managed to get round what I planned and a safe trip home. Some extra ordinary prices at the auto jumble, some of the scrap ...

Re: I just do not believe some people!
Happened to me in the 60s, two drivers parked too close either side of our new Hillman Imp, fortunately the rear window opens with the door key so we climbed in over the seats and drove away!!

Hi Rob, just sold my 2 enfields but still shoot my Musgrave with 30" barrel. We don't get as many range days at Strensall due to MOD "higher priority bookings" these days. I often go in the MM and always get a crowd round it when there.

Don't forget the red fan blades on the dynamo are longer than the ones fitted to the water pump .

Hi Phil, just as an aside, what is the exact legnth of the front axle wheel bearing spacer please. I am in the process of building up a spare set of uprights and may make my own spacers up.

Re: tyres(again!)
You will need to keep the 75 or 80 profile tyre or you will lose speed. When you are at an indicated 60 mph on your speedo ( assuming it is reading correctly) you will only be doing 54 mph!!

Re: SMM high light short/long bonnet ??
My MM is SMM 971** 15th May 1951 tourer and has a short bonnet if that is any help. It left the factory as a high light but was converted to a low light by Stuart & Arden to match the rest of the fleet before delivery to Rentokil in East Grinsted

Re: Van exhaust
Hi Propshaft, both silencers are available from minispares, the front one is round section, the rear is oval section. RC40 package gets you both boxes and a piece of pipe to play with. They last about 7 to 8 years. I have been using this system for about 25 years. If you go round to your local exhau...

Re: Van exhaust
A mini spares RC40 pair of silencers does the trick for me.
The smaller silencer goes on to the 3 branch under the passenger floor. - Wed Dec 06, 2017 3:08 pm

Re: Advice re positive camber
You need to fit spacers each side where the bolt securing the lower wishbone goes through the chassis legs. when you get the wheels vertical or just very slightly positive tighten every thing up and get the track rechecked. I run both my pickup and tourer with 1/2 degree negative and get no corner s...

I used to have a muff like that fitted but an 88deg. thermo sorted it out and I havn't had any problems so far. I did forget to open the muff up once and arrived in Hull with water coming out of the rad. overflow when I stopped!!

Re: Clutch replacement
Engine out is definitely the easiest, and if the gear box has to come out as well you only have to take the floor up and undo the propshaft and mounts etc. then lift it out by hand. I am 80 next year and can still manage it out in a day with out too much trouble.

Re: Rear Axle Issues
The collars should be still and rotate with the 1/2 shaft. When you put the brake drum on they should tighten up. make sure the surface of the collars(sleeve) is clean and polished. sometimes the old seal goes hard and damages the surface where the seal runs.
