Re: First car. TVF 641

Being of an age know when silly things appear in the head. I am looking for the history of and eventual demise or maybe not of my first car. Reg number. TFV 641. Morris Minor 1000. 4 door. Grey. Red interior. I sold it to a garage in 1966/67 part exchange for my next car. Can any of the members hel...

beware Dodgy Car "Buyer"

Content removed as in breach of the T&C's. I am also going to remove all other connected messages but have kept a copy of the thread. As stated on a number of occasions, and posted as a 'sticky' in the for sale forums, if there is any complaint or dispute relating to transactions on this site th...

My car's original colour

[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1359995641_17692 [/frame] I'm trying to identify my car's original colour. Though my V5C states Rose-Taupe, I'm reliably informed that it is in fact Dove Grey. The paintwork is as far as I knoe original, but it does look very good and may have been repainte...

Re: Strong petrol smell in cabin

Belt and braces I think. I'll try replacing the sender gasket (is this an easy home fix for someone with no mechanical ability?) and the pipe going into the tank from the filler cap at the same time. I've driven about 100 miles and still have 3/4 showing on fuel guage so I don't think I'm losing any...

It is a bit damp around the sender.

Re: Strong petrol smell in cabin

It is the thick "elephant's trunk" heater duct hose or pipe that is split and torn, and will be replacing it as this is something I can do myself. As soon as I can find one. I guess from what people are saying, the petrol smell in the interior is being caused by a fuel system problem. When...

Strong petrol smell in cabin

I have a 1964 "transitional" 1098 Minor with a fresh air heater that could be either a 948 or 1098 type. The hose that runs from the front of the car (next to the radiator) to the bulkhead is torn and shredded to pieces at the radiator end, thus allowing fumes from the engine compartment i...

Re: curved air and Sonja Kristina

Music was pretty good until those "expopfactoridle" type programs came on the scene a few years back. Now it's mainly wishy washy manufactured music created by combining a catchy but soulless tune and a 5 minute old good looking but forgettable one album wonder designed only to last long e...

Re: Alta Cylinder Head Stolen

scrap yard dealers have no morals  they even let people scrap grid covers knowing they are stolen. The sad thing is, if anyone was that hard up that they felt they had to take what is to anyone other than me just a rusty piece of scrap junk, I'd have willingly given them a few quid to leave i...

Re: TV classic cars

The cars are apparently given to whoever wins some competition. No tv? Honestly, they've ironed out all the problem now! :D Strange, but it never really got used. I only ever watched Top Gear, and much as I love Jeramy Clarkson, I'm not sure he is worth the license fee. The money I saved from not n...

Re: TV classic cars

After reading through all of this, I'm glad that I don't have a television. I'd have thrown my crutch at it watching this lot. "Grinding paint off with an angle grinder" Mad, totally mad. I pity the poor people who end up with these cars. I can't think of anything worse that paying a lot o...

Alta Cylinder Head Stolen

To add further insult to injury, after having my weekend ruined by a time-waster "selling" a car, I've discovered my "Alta" cylinder head is missing from the garage. The door was damaged by someone reversing into it a while ago and has left it easy to gain entry, though this is n...

Re: Advice Please

Well done ! Don't be fooled by the 'turned down a better offer just for you' scam...... I did wonder about that... though to be fair to the vendor, he has been very honest with me and has helped to point out all the problem areas, even the ones I had missed. I was a little wary of why the ca...

Re: Insurance Rip Off

Very true. Now I think about it, the "type" of people who drive the new fiat 500 generally wont be as careful as the (mostly) enthusiasts who drive Minors. And there's loads and loads of 500s around here (at least half a dozen on my estate alone) increasing the chance of accidents of theft...

Re: Advice Please

Let others know what part of the world you live in, there may well be someone on here who is close by and would be happy to have a look and provide a second opinion. I live in Carterton, Oxfordshire. 15 miles outside of Oxford on the Cheltenham side. The car is in Woodley, near Reading. Circa 50 mi...

Insurance Rip Off

For 2012 Fiat 500 1.2, £265 with 13 years no-claims. That's a £65 increase on the previous year due apparently to me living in an area with a high vehicle crime rate and a high percentage of insurance claims within your postcode area. For 1961 Minor 1000 (948), £89 on a classic car policy with no no...

Advice Please

Hello to everyone. My name is Matt and I am a new young (ish) Owners Club member looking to purchase what will be my first Minor. I have viewed an otherwise in quite good condition 948 Minor that has some visible rust (4 inches by 5 inches long patch) on one of the chassis legs (driver side running ...
