Rotten Wood
Hi Guys The passenger side sill rail has come completely off my 1970 Traveller this afternoon whilst I was doing some maintenance. I know I can get a replacement piece. Two questions: How is the new wood sill rail attached - the old one has the remains of long thin rusty nails in it. Surrounding tim...

Re: Stalling
Hanging my head in shame at this point. Got round yesterday to exploring why the moggy kept stalling on its last journey. Opened the bonnet and er oops what's that doing there? Give you one guess who had left the oil filler cap off after topping up oil just before making that last journey. Embarrass...

Re: Stalling
Looks like the weather is breaking here tomorrow and it will be dry enough to go to work in. I will check and adjust the low speed idle as necessary before setting off and report back.

Stalling
Took Martha out this week for the first time in two weeks owing to bad weather. Early into the journey she stalled 2 or 3 times. Started OK if not a bit long on cranking the starter than normal. Put it down to being cold engine and not used. Stalled again after 12 miles and took longer to restart. W...

Air Filter
Had a discussion yesterday with Mrs Offshore when out and about in Martha about rotating the air filter box to winter setting. Herself is of the opinion that rotating rearwards into winter mode is for heater purposes ie the heater cannot supply loads of warm air to the cabin if the incoming air is r...

Re: Cylinder Head torquing
Hi Bmcecosse - got the workshop manual which I was given a week or two after my birthday when I bought the car. Trouble is can't find it! Not looked too hard and last had it in UK over summer so could be in the garage somewhere I suppose instead of the bookcase where it's meant to be. Might just dow...

Re: Cylinder Head torquing
Thanks guys esp Philthehill for the drawing. My working spirally would have been a bit different! Will report back in a few weeks to see what the results are.
Cheers for now.

Thanks guys. Cylinder head not been off in my ownership of 30 months.
I assume I re-torque all head bolts starting in the middle and working out spirally?

It's head to block. Rocker cover seems fine.
Never removed a cylinder head. No where did I put that manual?

Cylinder Head torquing
Having steam cleaned engine and bay and also replaced the timing seal and cover I find I have a weeping cylinder head at the front end over cylinder 1 (radiator end).
Do I simply torque down the relevant bolts or am I looking at a more complicated procedure or even replace the gasket?

Re: Rear seat
Hi guys thanks for the replies. bmcecosse the bump stops are there and in fact are new as they were replaced in summer when the springs were fitted. New bump stops were fitted at the front as one was hanging off when I stood under the car on the rampant at Wares. Not sure about the damper oil. When ...
Rear seat
I am quite embarrassed about how much my rear seat passengers bounce vertically up and down when I am driving get. All dampers are topped up and she had new leaf suspension fitted over the summer much improving the ride. It hasn't improved the rear seat. A new seat kit whatever that contains is £220...

New Radiator
The fitting of new timing seal and steam cleaning engine and bay has worked wonders and I appear to have an oil tight engine..... Steam cleaning all the s h 1 t off the radiator shows it full of holes and needing replacement. As I want to attend my first national in July need to do it before summer....

Re: Brakes failed
Hi guys. Master cylinder has gone rusty inside so seal failed. Just back off holiday so had other leaks attended to whilst away as the garage is within walking distance of our airport. The substantial business is just that - commercial garage with owner perusing his passion for Minors and putting it...

Re: Replacing the Brake Master Cylinder
Can I ask a related question here having had a new master cylinder fitted this week.
How do I install new bushes to the brake pedal which rocks from side to side. Not had a look at the job but got the bushes in stock. Can I take the pedal off without removing the master cylinder?

Re: Brakes failed
Hi Bmcecosse - yep she's going superb. Couple of engine leaks notified which I know about and a rear axle leak which I didn't. Cost of the job £37.50 plus parts and VAT. As the Manx reckon they taught you Scots to be careful I am delighted to pay the bill. Stops on a sixpence now. Just got those lea...

Re: Brakes failed
Having spoken to our local branch chair and moggy guru I had a look at the master cylinder. Dry at the back wet at the front where the pedal is attached. Offer was made to supply from ESM new Lockheed unit and fit. Car collected last night with no fuel in it and sticking starter motor. Car now retur...

Hi Liammonty - thanks for the post about the inspection cover. I'll try and have a look tonight while the wife is out :D With regard to the drums do I take it the rubbing is normal when the shoes are adjusted correctly and may be disuaded from rubbing by a few gentle taps on the drum with a rubber m...

Re: Brakes failed
Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. Going back to Wares is not an option until at least February so it's diy. I have now got to know the leader of our branch here a man with a mere 9 (nine) Morris Minors so will see him about a repairs. Thanks for the tips on the brake adjustment. I need to redo both a...
