Re: An 1951 MM LHD, stripped, with a minimum on rust
What a fantastic restoration. And I love your shed. You mentioned you have water coming forming on any cold steel areas when you get cold weather. I wonder if the dampness is coming from the washing machine that is also in your shed. Most condensation inside homes is from the bathroom/ washhouse and...

Re: Vauxhall Chevette front hubs
Changes are not forbidden in NZ but any alteration like brakes will have to be certified. Find an authorised certifier (ask any hot rod enthusiast how to find one) and talk to him before you do anything. And take plenty of photos to show him. Any welding will need to be done by a ticketed welder or ...

In one of the Mad Max movies the chap who killed his friend was chained to a car that was set to catch fire in about 5 minutes with his only chance of escape being the meat saw he left so he could cut his hand off. He got fried.

Ah Ha. that is probably why it is not on the 2 LCV's I have looked at. Both 1967 models. Thankyou for that info.

Re: Found what I think is a good value original convertible .
Some cars have the body number stamped on the bulkhead between the accelerator cable exit and the bonnet rod. That will be the exact number of the car. Worth a look. It may be hard to see but on later vehicles it should be there. Doesn't appear to be there on vans and LCV's

Re: side valve to 1098?
As well as the above alterations you will need a new radiator and probably should cut a half mooned shape out of the cross member at the rear of the motor. I notice smithskids has not done this but the head will be frightfully close to the bodywork at this point. And while you are at it why not fit ...

Re: Should I; shouldn't I; Well I have!
What a lovely car. Maybe the lack of a Lfront hubcap was the cause of the low? price. If you have trouble with oil consumption clean that can that the hose comes out of. It has a filter inside it (or should have) which restricts the crankcase pressure movement if it is full of gunk. In fact if you h...

I've found that there are only two colours under a minor. Black undercoat and a strange redish brown that pops out from under the undercoat.

Re: Minor in a crate !
I would suspect they (MG A and Minors) are being sent off to Vancouver Canada in a "Completely Knocked Down" condition. They arrived in NZ in CKD condition but I never knew what that was. Maybe this is what they called CKD. No containers back then. Many had salt spray problems when they ar...

Re: Redmoggy, back in a Moggy
In NZ they are not quite as rare proportionately as in UK. The old sidevalve is as you say not the most powerful horse in the stable but Rolleston is quite flat (i think) I am a Hastings resident so I have no idea what is below the broken ferry. I have completely bastardised a 1950 model by cutting ...

Les, you may well be correct, However the past cannot be altered. It is up to those who are prepared to live in the present to attempt to fix the wrongs that have been done. And in this country most of the ecological wrongs have been committed by those who colonised from GB. I am ashamed to say this...

I actually live in NZ and every animal we have out here is imported (there are no native quadripeds) and every one of them are like four legged bird destroyers. Oppossums, Stoats, ferrets (your aformentioned polecats) weasels, cats, And every other nasty slippery and dangerous sharp toothed so calle...

I feel you have the arrangement all wrong. The timorous wee beasty should be in the plastic bag where it cannot see any fingers or other extremities. Then throw it in the river with a rock attached so it cannot wipe out any more wildlife. nasty little brutes

Aren't badgers a bit grumpy when in an enclosed and limited space? Maybe this one may just wake up and sidle over and ask what all the noise is about and that he is trying to sleep so keep it down PLEASE.

Re: Fin's Pulling His Hair Out: Odometer Edition
I suspect we/you have missed one thing and BMC mentioned it earlier. The wild? fluctuations of the needle was/may have actually caused by the cable slipping. If so the odometer would also be out and it actually gave you an accurate reading through this. Now go back and read this again as it is not g...
