Move handbrake/ford 5 speed

Hello all, I've currently have a shortened handbrake lever to clear the gearstick of the 5 speed Ford gearbox. A common thing to do but I don't find it that comfortable to use as my fingers are coming onto the area where the round handle part of the lever runs into the flatter side sections. Reading...

Re: Morris 1275 Ital fan

Hello, Almost an Ital but I had 1275 Midget engine with its standard 6 bladed plastic fan. There wasn't a lot of clearance with the radiator so I chickened out and fitted 2 metal Minor blades at 90 degrees to each other. It was that bit thinner. That was fine and once confident, I just reverted to a...

Re: Stub axle/swivel upright fit.

Hello Phil and thanks for that. Yes of course, the bearings will be different too. I'd not really thought that through. I think I'm going up a bit of a blind alley here as its all getting rather convoluted. I'll just stick to the later model parts and keep everything simple and consistent. Thanks ag...

Re: Stub axle/swivel upright fit.

Thanks Phil, You say what I've always thought, that the same upright is used across the board with just the steering arm in a different boss. I just didn't realise things had changed along the way. I am a little concerned though that there will be enough material left in the casting to bore the stub...

Re: Stub axle/swivel upright fit.

Here's a further post on the continuing saga of pressing a stub axle into a NOS swivel upright. Its a case of "what could possibly go wrong?" Armed with my swivel and stub axle, I set off to have them pressed together. Handing them to my press mate, he peered at them and said "there's...

Re: longer choke cable

Speedy Cables for me too if you cant get a mini one the length you need.

How long would you like it sir? that'll do nicely. Ring them to confirm what you want and how much it will cost and then just send the old one off.

Cheers, Colin.

Re: Stub axle/swivel upright fit.

Hello all - An update. Being a little concerned at pressing the old stub axle out and having it pick up, I decided I'd have a go at getting it out with a few judicious cuts with a slitting wheel in my grinder. After a few measurements to work out the wall thickness, I marked the depth on the slittin...

Re: Stub axle/swivel upright fit.

Thanks Phil, I was hoping you'd be along with some wise words and wise pictures too. Much appreciated. I think I'll have to take it to someone who has more oomph than I have then. The last thing I want is to get it stuck halfway. Thanks for the guidance for which way to push it out and that's also a...

Stub axle/swivel upright fit.

Hello all, I've read other threads about fitting Marina stub axles to Minor uprights but how easy is it to change one Minor stub axle for another? I have a NOS Minor upright without a stub axle and plenty of worn ones which do. Cutting an old upright to get the stub axle out would be ok but how easy...

Re: Door Fit

If that doesn't give you enough extra gap, I went a stage further and filed material off the hinges themselves. I was loath to push and shove the body about too much as it was all freshly painted so reckoned that if I made a mess of the hinges, it would be cheaper to buy some more rather than try to...

Re: Door Fit

Evening all, You might not like my response but I had similar door problems when I got my car back from some welding. I went round and round in circles trying to get things to fit nicely but without much luck. I ended up slackening the front wing fixings and pulling the wing forward. It gave me room...

Re: Grumpy/Marina disc brakes

Thanks again Phil. As always, your advice is spot on. I'd missed the adaptors on the BM site but I've just ordered a couple ready in advance. When I take the old uprights off, I'll give it a go to salvage the old ones. From memory, I did loctite them on so warmth will be needed. The current set up h...

Grumpy/Marina disc brakes

Hello all, As usual, can I pick people's brains please. I have one of the early Grumpy Marina front disc brake set ups. That's the one with the bearing sleeve on the stub axle that allows what I presume are the standard Marina roller bearings to be fitted. I intend to change the uprights/trunnions e...

Re: Help identifying this part please

afternoon James, I'd hazard a guess that that as you're working on the alternator, its the clip off the rear of the alternator that holds the electrical plug in place. The two hook ends locate in two individual lugs (or maybe slots) on the end of the alternator and then hang down so you can get the ...

That looks tidy. I also keeps the bellows in the hose too to allow a bit of movement between the engine and the radiator.
Good one.

Re: Ital to Minor top hose

Evening all, I went the other way and modified the radiator. The curved top tube can be unsoldered with a blowlamp and then shortened to just leave a straight spigot with the rolled end on it to stop the hose coming off. It can then be soldered back in place. The radiator can then be connected to th...

Re: Trunnions - how slack is slack

Thanks Phil. The photos speak a thousand words so I'll add an extra grease nipple and check the baffle tube. I also have a set of Declan's seals "in stock" ready for this overhaul. Obviously I've not used them yet but they do look very professional and that they'll do a good job. Thanks on...
