The cable they sent has an S on the black knob so it is a starter cable for something.(but not mine) I' ll g...

1963 pull starter cable
Hi Guys. I fitted a starter solenoid (switch) on my 1963 traveller only for the cable to give up at the end which was frayed. The new cable arrived today from Charles Ware but is about 4 times as long (See photo.) The current one is long as it is. There is a fair curve in it before it enters the joi...

Re: rear crankshaft scroll.
New starter switch fitted (after a few swear words). Refitted the starter pull cable and...snap ! The end which screws into the cable attatcher was frayed So I ordered a new cable. starts a treat off the button from the engine side so all is ok on that bit.

Re: rear crankshaft scroll.
Your right Paul but I'll order the new switch for peace of mind. I do have a starting handle but I've never used one! I imagine myself not letting go and dislocating a shoulder!!

Re: rear crankshaft scroll.
Delay in proceedings guys as the starter pull switch is goosed. it stopped functioning intermittently, then it got to the "pull it out to it's limit and prey stage"- at which point I adjusted the cable which worked briefly and now nothing. When I depress the centre push button from the eng...

rear crankshaft scroll.
One of the deciding factors on buying my traveller was the the 1098 engine hade been rebored to ÷ 20 with new pistons and rings fitted and a new rear crankshaft seal was fitted as well. The test drive was fine and I saw no obvious leaks. The car was delivered by transporter. I gave it a basic servic...

1963 traveller with no jacking points
Hi again folks. Can I pick your brains again please? My recently acquired 1963 traveller has no jacking points. Underneath is is in great condition . No sign of rusted out jacking points. Is it possible they were never fitted? Can I retro fit them anyway and if so where are they positioned? Reading ...

Re: Gearstick sloppy
I'm happy to report that the nylon thrust and the spring were succesfully removed. As soon as I started drilling it, it lifted out. These were replaced along with the rubber o-ring. I checked the locating screw located into the groove on the gear stick and removed and lubed the plunger and this has ...

Re: seatbelt mountings on a 1963 traveller
Hi ManyMinors. Thanks for the info and sorry for not replying sooner. What you say makes sense and is reassuring. I've since bought 2 x 1inch grommets to plug the centre holes for now. Just as a matter of interest, If I were to use the top threaded mounting, I see advertised a buckle type device whi...

Re: Gearstick sloppy
At the risk of being boring, can anybody explain the purpose of the slot on the large ball on the bottom of the gearstick please? Does the locating screw (No. 42 on the drawing below) fit into it? The screw on mine seems short and possibly a reason for too much gearstik travel on 1st and 2nd? Thanks...

Re: Gearstick sloppy
Thanks for the tip simmitc but if you look at my photo, the nylon thrust button seems to be sitting inside or underneath a metal flange? I am a bit wary about using the screwdriver technique because when I place the new button over its location it looks too big to be pushed into place. Or does that ...

Gearstick sloppy
Hi again. The gearstick on my traveller is positive but a bit too much side play so I bought items 45(nylon thrust button) 46( spring) and 53(o ring) (Numbers from charles ware's drawing) from Charles Ware to tighten the gearstick sideplay. It's a 1963 1098 witha ribbed gearbox. gears all select and ...

photo orientation
When I attatch a photo onto this website the result is that it is "spun" round 45 degrees anti clockwise. Posting the same photo on facebook etc shows the the photo as it should appear. Is there a trick I should know?
Thanks in advance
