Re: Rolling tax exemption

Good suggestion. Here in France the road tax is on the fuel and a sticker is placed in the windscreen to show the car is insured and has a CT (MOT). [/quote] That must be very practical for those living near the German or swiss border, no car tax to pay and buying your fuel at German or Swiss Prices.

Re: Rolling tax exemption

I read with growing envy "tax free historic vehicles"...no periodic testing...rolling Registration of the 40 year rule. :( Each of my classic cars is taxed at €190 per year. The testing is every other year. To Register as an historic vehicle, especially with an imported car like mine are, costs Mini...

Re: Speed Limiters

Although personnaly I think that not having a General upper Speed Limit on our Autobahnen is absurd, ( the only other countries in the world that do not have one are apparantly the Isle of Mann and Republik of Sudan) it does mean that the tailgating referred to, as a rule does not happen. For sure I...

Re: New exhaust very noisy

If the exhaust is newly fitted then you may find, as I did that it is just touching the Body as it leaves the engine compartment. When the engine is not running, there may be enough clearance but with the Vibration of the Motor it may then just touch and create a lot of noise. Worth checking. Salut ...

Re: How Far have you driven?

Nice Topic! We have been to Freiburg in Breisgau a few times last year there and back @ 375 km each way. A couple of years ago a round trip in France to Nantes and then up to Caen for the Ferry to Portsmouth and thence home via Harwich and Rotterdam. How far was that? I do not remember, maybe 2000km...

Re: Master cylinder?

Were all the wheels hot when you touched them or only the one? Perhaps you did not feel the others after the first "hot" shock. Before you jump to the conclusion that the MC is at fault, jack the car up so that the wheels are off the ground ( or at least in turn the front and the back) then apply th...

A good friend has developed, in conjunction with a local university a Nanoblockheizkraftwerke - sort of miniature power station. The principal is not new of course, just the construction using readily available parts from the motor industry and thus considerably cheaper not to mention much smaller t...

Re: brake lines - material?

That would seem like an eminently reasonable Suggestion for the test every 5 years instead of the present two. However, it appears that the government have ignored the recommendation . This is perhaps to be expected - such ideas sadly from one of the states rarely gets taken up.

Re: brake lines - material?

It appears on the face of it that the TUV people do not understand the British MOT relating to cars over 40 years of age. Cars over 40 years old that have had no major alterations (which are specified in legislation) do not need to have a MOT which if I understand correctly was agreed with the EU. ...

Re: brake lines - material?

The basic problem with the TüV organisation whether it be Nord or Süd is exactly the same but on a larger scale than British MOT stations. A lot comes down to interpretation and application. Added to that is the individual testers personnal taste. End result is widespread inconsistency even though t...

Under the Basis that trust is good but control is better. I am no expert on ...clutches or anything really but I have installed one. Re: Removing sump for oil change?

The real experts on the forum can make a better factual judgement than me but... I had to remove the sump from another Old Timer of mine to inspect the bearings and which probably did not have an oil change since God was a child. The thick black gunge had to be scraped off the bottom. A normal oil c...
