Re: Hard-drive like clunking noise at low revs

Having driven it again, I'm convinced the noise is coming from behind. The wheel nuts and the 4 nuts from the prop to diff seem tight, that's not to say that they're torqued correctly but enlikely to be moving. Is it possible that the the diff or UJ has some play?

Re: Hard-drive like clunking noise at low revs

Sorry that should be low throttle. I'm mixing up revs and throttle. Suspension has no noises out of the ordinary squeals etc. Exhaust is getting a bit rattly and expected to drop in next 2 years as second hand mild steel. Wheel nuts I'd be surprised as buzz gunned up not by me and usually they requi...

Re: Hard-drive like clunking noise at low revs

Not at all while stationary and now I wonder if I really heard it much under 30mph. It seems to peak around 50mph: I made a recording earlier of it on a short stretch. The exhaust is a bit noisy but the noise will come in and out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtpZ4Liv5_o It now makes me wonder if...

Re: Hard-drive like clunking noise at low revs

I think the sound is best described as the sound of an old computer hard-drive seeking, as clunking is too broad. It is regular/consistent rather than off and on if throttle/speed not changed etc. Would engine mounts change so much with the throttle moving?

Hard-drive like clunking noise at low revs

My 1098cc traveller with a low milage engine has started making a noise which best sounds like an old hard-drive clunking. The noise does not usually happen at idle throttle but I think did happen once turning left at a traffic lights slowly happens at low throttles above 30mph seems to happen at a ...

Re: Carb to pump fuel pipe attachment diameters

U/J is a possibility. Wheels should have been balanced just over a year ago: at least one has visible weights.

Re: Carb to pump fuel pipe attachment diameters

With the new pipe, it holds even without clips. I made sure to only do the clips up until they wouldn't turn around on the hose so hope it's tight enough without being too tight. Although it has been working fine, I did a motorway test and it seemed to misfire now and then at 70 MPH but was fine at ...

Re: Carb to pump fuel pipe attachment diameters

Looks like all the push on fittings offered by Holden have one or more barbs, except those for SU pumps. :(

Re: Carb to pump fuel pipe attachment diameters

Mine does not have a bulge. It also comes directly vertical from the pump while you seem to have some fitting with a barb (so more reliable). Mine looks just like the one on the SU website: http://sucarb.co.uk/su-fuel-pumps-spares/single-lp-pumps-kits/fuel-pump-electronic-negative-9039.html See the ...

Carb to pump fuel pipe attachment diameters

I just tried to attached a new fuel pipe after the previous one came off while driving and showed signs of damage. I got an official SU ones, hoping it would be the best: https://www.morrisminorspares.com/fuel-system-c74/fuel-carburettor-c75/genuine-s-u-fuel-petrol-pipe-pump-to-carburettor-metal-bra...

Re: Clutch squeal

Sorry, can you explain that again, please? I can't see how "pushing the clutch in meant that the headlights were drawing current from the battery and lifting the clutch caused the engine to kick in." Why would pressing down the clutch pedal cause the headlights to draw current from the ba...

Re: Clutch squeal

Hi thanks for the replies. On the way to the garage in broad daylight, I noticed the noise was absent. So I decided to turn on my headlights. You can probably see where this is going: fan belt loose.. So I guess what was happening is that pushing the clutch in meant that the headlights were drawing ...

Re: Clutch squeal

Could it possibly be the spigot bearing, have known it on other vechicles Does that go with the engine? Would seem unlikley but it's under warranty if that was the case. Otherwise it's possible. Looks like the hydraulic clutch is either unavailable or a fair bit more expensive on another website. :(

Re: Clutch squeal

The release bearing can be examined from underneath, while it is a lot of work to get either the gearbox or engine out. If it does come out, would you reccomend upgrading to a hydraulic with rolling bearings given the kind of driving I would be doing? Or is that asking for more trouble? If I d...

Re: Clutch squeal

I'd say 1,000 miles since engine swap (can double check if need be), of which a lot is in stop-start traffic. The noise has only been there recently. So it is possible that I rode the clutch too long. Could the plates look fine but still wear out after a similar length of time? Sadly the natu...

Re: Clutch squeal

I called them but they think that the noise is just the carbon release bearing slightly vibrating and that the noise may go after it wears a bit more (different person last time I called who wasn't sure exactly what it could be.). They offered to check the release bearing from the rubber bung but so...

Re: Clutch squeal

To the best of my knowledge, it's always the clutch being at the same point. It is not just a case of balancing the accelerator and clutch as I can do it without accelerator. There's no sign of clutch slip. I can believe something else like fan belt/alternator being the issue on the basis of the eng...

Clutch squeal

Recently I noticed a squeal occasionally when lifting the clutch up nearly to the top. It can be louder if more load such as if I'm pulling away with some gas.

I've also noticed a squeal twice (so not always) when starting just after the engine catches but this may be unrelated.

Any ideas?

Re: Headlight outer bevel chrome inner diameter

I think there is a benefit of LED in reduced power consumption when in start stop traffic for a daily driver, even if there was no brightness benefit. I find the battery is draining rather than charging and pushed up the idle revs a little to counter. Adding a dash cam and tracker perhaps doesn't he...
