Re: Brakes completely jammed

Welcome, the likley causes of the problem have been covered well but for future ref: If a mechanical thing is talking to you like this you really don't want to just keep going until it wont go any further. You are also risking damaging the clutch and possibly even the half-shafts with this rather br...

Re: Car Cover

I bought a top of the range breathable storm force thing for my traveller, it fitted superbly but I sold it very quickly as they all trap moisture against the paint and the wood. they also abrade the paintwork, soft lining or no soft lining, they rub the paint away with constant rubbing in the wind ...

Re: Can you believe this...?

Tried searching on the net. Superseded. Same part no. Completely different PCB. Actually hardly surprising. Found out the boiler is 37 years old so it's had a good life!! A PCB can only fail in a minor way, its probably either cracked or a failed component (more likely) I had this with a new Ideal ...

Re: Heavily Undersealed on MOT

I had to give a traveller to the scrap man last year that had very thick underseal over all kinds of unpleasantness. The more I removed, the more I found. Even the crossmember was partially sculpted from the stuff and I grew very despondent with this. My advice would be never buy any car with unders...

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Sorry if my response wasn't helpful.
I sought to illustrate that its necessary to have a good understanding of DC electrics if you want to DIY them.

Let me know where you get that 200 amp 17 amp cable, sounds like pretty good stuff.

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Hi Couple of points, there is no such thing as a negative earth battery and you cannot fit a 35 amp fuse in-line in a 17 amp cable (well you can, but you most certainly shouldn't) because the wire is then the fuse and the fuse is not a fuse. This is how fires start in DIY autoelectrics Id recommend ...

Re: Clutch release bearing preparation

Ahh so that's why people sitting in a queue blind me with stop lights, I though modern cars didn't have handbrakes! :D It is annoying, but some cars do it intentionally. My last two Mercs, if you jab the footbrake down and let go it puts the car into HOLD, and it sits there with the brake lights on...

Re: Tyre advice needed

This drives better because it has a carcass that is more suited to an old car . The handling is the most important consideration. we want them to drive right. Where did you get that gem of wisdom? Seriously, I really hope you are right and im not for a moment implying otherwise but id be interested...

Re: Tyre advice needed

I bought 4 new bridgestones a month back, not used them but I wouldnt trust anything Chinese or far eastern so it was the only choice for me. They look fine on the standard wheels, the cross-plies went in the bin.

Re: AA pre delivery inspection

I wouldn't have the AA look at a classic car, where would they plug the computer in to tell you whats wrong with it?
Far better to take someone that understands Minors and is prepared to get on the floor and look at it properly.

Re: "D" on bulkhead

Thanks for responses, some I understand, others are pretty complex and I appreciate the efforts invested by all. A few suggestions to contemplate. Whatever the reason, we can be sure this is an original D. This car hasn't been welded or had any bodywork done other than a few touch-ups here and there...

Re: "D" on bulkhead

It is indeed in the same place as that S, that is the only other one I could find and that was the same car on another thread. The tread includes "Synobel" and "standard" as the suggestions. included below for ref. As mine IS a deluxe and bears a D then maybe it is a designator o...

"D" on bulkhead

My own research on this hasn't provided a definitive answer.
Ive got a "D" on my very original 57 on the nearside bulkhead which looks very old.

Would be interested if anyone actually "knows" what it represents
