Are you really sure that it's a misfire?

Re: Sticking underfelt on sill/wheel arches?

I did it on the wheel arches and never got the carpet to sit right at the edges due to it being raised slightly, this time around I'm skipping it!

Re: Daily driver

We did it for seven years and it was a lot of fun, we'll be back to using it once I stop getting carried away and put the engine back in.

I say stick an extra coat of underbody rustproofing (Bilt Hamber Dynax UB spray is dead easy), fit a good condenser plus good window seals and go out and enjoy it!

Re: maddening and persistent dashboard rattle

Perhaps the rattle was being 'communicated' via the steering rack and shaft to your irritated ears. :)

I've had something similar happen but that time it was a loose bolt on one of the dampers!

Re: Four Door Saloon

I got a four-door because I preferred the look but you do suffer from all the doors being smaller, it is more difficult to get in and out the front, but of course easier for those in the rear!

Brass Jet Pipe Seals?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144561010927

I see some Triumph owners are concerned about these. I wonder if it will be more difficult to get these to seal, and if we think they're a good idea?

Re: Electric fan

Yes it's perfectly possible to fit both an electric and retain the original, I've done it! Mine is a £20 "Aeroline" from eBay, I don't think anything larger than 10" will fit nicely, mine was perhaps 8" but this was six years ago so I don't recall exactly. It's the "suck&quo...

Re: Manual gearbox— what’s that?

I've been working on the development of electric cars for 5 years now, batteries will not need changing and most are guaranteed for 8 years anyway, think about it there are plenty of 10 year old plus prius out there on their original battery. Yes there will be the option to use the battery as a sto...

Re: What tyres!!

Agreed, I would rank the common options similarly. Nankangs are perfectly fine, avoid Camac, Toyo and probably Barum. If you've got the cash go Bridgestone, if you're a millionaire go Pirelli Cinturanto or Michelin X. I have 165 R14 Vredestein Sprint Classics on 5.5j/van wheels which are fantastic b...

Re: 948cc cruising speeds

Thinking it through - tight valves could perhaps result in higher valve lift which would be better, but then perhaps them not closing completely after thermal expansion, in a really extreme case, but that strikes me as unlikely? Also an amateur. :D

If you can't find any "off the shelf" I'd recommend contacting www.fpeseals.com. They can make up anything you want, given some measurements.

I think those oil filler caps may be vented - I have one that looks the same and I can blow air through it. Worth checking.

I would do a "peak Issigonis" build - a lowlight with a flat-four engine and rear torsion bar suspension!

Re: 4-speed vs 5-speed 'boxes

I've tried both diffs 3.9 and 3.7, and now have the Ford Type-9 and the original 4.22. I like the Type-9 and have had mine reconditioned by First Motion Transmissions (~£700), but I recall when originally fit the car felt noticably heavier and the standard crossmember sold by the usual suspects wasn...

They are contracting the colour matching and paint production out to another company, I believe, hence the cost and they'll usually only sell you a minimum of four cans.
