Re: hood blown back
new hood all fitted now, and thanks for all your input. i may yet invest in a hood bag, probably leave it until next spring now, although wayne at charles ware showed me a terrific way of foliding and tucking away, so it looks pretty neat without the bag. much better than the slapdash way i used to ...

Re: hood blown back
having a new hood fitted at charles ware tomorrow. just over a grand for the job, new frame and hood. and it was covered by the insurance so just the £100 excess. one question: would it be worth having a hood bag to go with it, or is is just an un-necessary addition to what it already a fairly fiddl...

Re: hood blown back
it was converted professionally about 15 years ago, and the hood was replaced by charles ware about 6 years ago, so should be no issues there. meantime, i have been told by footman james insurer (Ageas) that the claim is valid, and i am starting that process now and reply when the issue is either re...

hood blown back
i was driving home from a shopping trip today with the hood up (it was raining) in my converted saloon when the hood suddenly blew backwards with enough force to buckle the frame. Which means i am no longer able to connect the hood to the two front pins, and the hood is partly ripped in a couple of ...

Re: fuel pump
I'm finally able to take the car out again on a winter's night without worrying that the pump might pack up, but only after fitting a new one. I was put in touch with a fellow moggie owner not too far from me, who spent an hour or so working on it, but he eventually pronounced that the points and di...

fuel pump
we've all (or nearly all) had experience of this. there you are purring along, then all of a sudden you're not purring along. You pull the bonnet catch, get out, hit the fuel pump with a spanner, it goes tick-tick-tick-tick-tick, and off you go again. but there's always that worry one day it won't w...

i think the club ought to clarify what they mean by the word "exclusive" in their advertised "scheme" with FJ.
and what kind of scheme?

footman james
i have two minors, one converted saloon and one saloon, both insured with footman james, and this year's premium (including agreed values and basic breakdown cover) came to £240. the policy is due for renewal in december, and i asked for a quote removing "drive to work" (don't work any mor...

Re: black streaks on white paintwork
second that. stunning looking van.
thanks for the advice re the G3, it turns out i have some in an old box full of moggie paraphernalia. but when you advise something less aggressive, do you have a particular product in mind. if so, could you let me know which one?

Cor. if that's how they come up after a rub down with G3, I'm off to buy some today.
you could have a shave in the reflection.
by the way. what have you used for the wheels? they look great too.

Re: black streaks on white paintwork
i think you can get a T cut and wax polish all in one, which might do the trick. although if it is the black rubber seal causoing the streaks, maybe there's something that will waterproof these and stop it running.

black streaks on white paintwork
i have a snowberry white saloon, restored by charles ware, which is in very good condition apart from unslightly black streak marks on the white paintwork. ordinary washing does not remove these, and it needs a wax polish to get rid of them, although still needs vigorous rubbing. it looks to me as t...

Re: starter problem
issue solved, i think. i was going to try all the suggestions one by one, and started with the possibility of loose battery connections. but this didn't improve anything. then i gave the unit a thorough degrease and clean, and hey presto. starts now first pull every time. so thanks a lot for all the...

Re: starter problem
thanks for all the input, and i'll try out the suggestions and see what happens. it fired up ok this morning (albeit again after a couple of initial failures) by which i mean nothing happened when i pulled the knob (total silence) rather than the starter motor working but the engine not starting. th...
