Surely this is exactly the time frame during which you, supported by your friend, had previously told us that Minors DO have the LBM?? I'm totally confused now. My own car of that age certainly has it.POMMReg wrote:
Looked via large screen, NO LBM - so 1957 to early 1959

Re: HAVE YOU LOST A MM1000 Reg VOH40J
I don't think it's burned out. The interior isn't burned. More likely somebody started to strip the paint off and abandoned it.
I doubt the car is stolen - probably removed from the lock-up garages in the background and being sold to recover rent due?

Re: Where are these seats from please?
Doubtful. The "Counties" models were large, more expensive cars with 4 doors so generally had more elaborate leather seat facings and no need to tip forward. These are obviously tipping seats so probably from a 2door vehicle, and the trim covering is very plain, suggesting a fairly lowly m...

Item number381153064859 maybe someone could do a link. Its blatantly obvious the seller wants to sell the number and document the car isn't worth anything and will never see the road ever again   1957 not 1961! Surely if it was as early a 1957 it would be a "rare LBM" shell :ro...

Re: Hot climate and mountain motoring
Over the years we've had several long hot trips to the South of France in a much laden Minor. The cars are basically over-cooled as standard so a Minor in standard form copes perfectly well in my experience IF everything is in good working order. Fitting a temperature gauge (I prefer the capillary t...

Re: Where are these seats from please?
No, I don't think they're Wolseley/Riley seats. I've owned a Wolseley 1500 and once fitted Riley 1.5 seats into a Minor but the frames of these are quite different. The covers do look BMC but the frames are more substantial than any of their small cars. I wonder if the had a commercial origin? The r...

Re: What ever happened to the LBM?
The "long body moulding" or LBM could never possibly have been anything to do with converting saloons to convertibles because a). The factory used a separate bodyshell for the convertible and lists this in the parts book. b). The factory sold the convertble version brand new for exactly th...

Re: Tyre inflation
145 section tyres on a Minor are not "pretty ridiculous", they are the size recommended by the car manufacturer and the pressure recommended for them is 24psi front and 26psi rear. Owners running at these pressures are not running them underinflated. As for pressures on modern cars. Most s...

Re: Tyre inflation
It also depends a bit on the tyre you use. Generally speaking I'd agree with Mike and find that my car is best at around 26psi all round. However I once fitted Toyo 155/14 radials and found them to require a bit more pressure as they seemed to have very soft sidewalls. 30psi suited them. I have Nang...

Re: Fuel pump query
It should be no trouble to purchase a new SU electric pump with contacts which, as already said, are not sensitive to polarity. I bought one recently "off the shelf" from Bull Motif Spares. It ticks away just like the original did........until it stopped  Other suppliers have them to...

Re: period car accessories
I agree it doesn't look much of an English scene but that IS Philpotts Garage in Ramsgate. It was built in 1936. The company are not listed as being a Morris or BMC dealer however and their main business was motorcycles and scooters it seems. Maybe the Morris was sold secondhand by them? Or maybe so...

Re: Floor paint
The other important thing is to prevent water getting inside the car in the first place. Many old Minors have rusted from the inside out due to leaking window rubbers/damp carpets. If you keep the inside dry you'll be halfway there  Other than that, I agree - bare metal then a good rust preven...
