Re: Start of rear repair first timer

You shouldn't have to remove the door just to repair or replace the inner wing - or are you thinking of doing a more major repair? On my Minor saloon I left the doors in place when I carried out the inner wing and floor repairs. That way I was always able to check the door gaps. The doors are heavy ...

Re: Mirrors

My car has had these mirrors since well before I got the car 35 years ago, possibly from new. What I notice is that my mirrors are not mounted on the very top of the wing. They are slightly on the outside curve and I think this makes a difference. As my car is 1969 the different shape is in keeping...

Re: Mirrors

Those original mirrors were made by Desmo. They are very sought after now but do turn up now and again. I bought a pair on ebay a few years ago. The ones you have now look like a Tex mirror. On my Minor I found the clip on mirrors pretty hopeless and have now fitted the Lucas copy mirrors onto the l...

Re: Brake bleed nipples and union screws

What makes you think they don't seat properly? The seating surfaces are out of sight inside the wheel cylinder aren't they. Whenever I have changed such items and bled the brakes I've always got somebody else to push the brake pedal hard while I check for any leaks at joints etc. Just tighten them u...

Re: Clutch not “working

Excellent news :) One thing which might be worth checking: Just have a look at the heater tap/valve at the back of the cylinder head and make sure it is not leaking at all. If it leaks a little, the coolant can enter the clutch housing below and contribute towards the dampness which can lead to the ...

Re: Replacement Steering Wheel with indicator Arm

I'm pretty sure it will if you have all the fittings. I fitted a whole Minor 1000 column to my Series 11 some years ago :)

Re: Clutch not “working

The problem is almost certainly a stuck (sometimes called frozen) clutch. Basically a little corrosion has stuck the clutch plate in position through lack of use. Generally easily cured. Run the engine to get it warm. Once warm, you might find that is sufficient but generally you have to be a little...

I'd say have another read of your chassis number. I think you have one digit missing. 98240 is much too low

Re: 2 door sills information needed

The outer undersill is what the sill rail bolts on to. The original sections seem to have been removed from the car pictured at some time and replaced by some fabricated repair sections.

Re: 2 door sills information needed

Thanks you I'm just trying to make sense with what is left on my car Not much by the look of it :o I reckon you need to purchase almost everything. That'll be a BIG job. Have a look at some of the other restoration threads on here - and maybe there are some on youtube or similar? Maybe a visit to a...

Re: Lucas Windtone Horn

If you look at the Parts books, there's probably as many variants of Horn configuration as there are Seat arrangements..... I gave up trying to understand the thought pattern behind the various decisions; I've probably not not the 'right' set up for the year, but it works, so not a priority. In the...

Re: Lucas Windtone Horn

I must say that I've never heard anyone refer to the later 9H horn as a "windtone". Anyone referring to a windtone horn has in my experience always meant the earlier WT horn as pictured. These were fitted to the Minor 1000 from its introduction in 1956 until around 1963.

Re: 1966 morris minor 1000 Oil Filter

My two bits of advice would be: 1). Get yourself an original "Owners handbook" for your car. This small publication can often be found and is very useful. If you want more detail then an original workshop manual is also a good thing. 2). To chat to other owners about your car, find out whe...

I don't think you'll really find anything "Genuine Lockheed" now apart from new/old stock. Lockheed ceased to exist as a company some years ago. There are specialists around who will recondition a servo.

Re: Filling @ BP

It seems a silly fuss in a way........But...... In these days of Health and Safety, having a car with a hot engine filling up with fuel over the top of the distributor etc perhaps seems a little potentially dangerous? Quite a lot of older cars have the fuel tank in with the engine actually. I don't ...

Re: tyre pressures

You shouldn't need to go much higher than the manufacturer recommended in the first place. Some experimentation is fine and different makes of tyres might run better at slightly different pressures but these are the recommended pressures copied from the original driver's handbook.
