Re: Front wheel bearings

£56 was for one side of the car... so both sides of the hub & an oil seal... kit I can't remember the make I'm afraid, but I did ask my mechanic to keep the packaging, which I've not seen since... I've got a whole load of chasing up of details about this, but unfortunately too busy working long ...

Re: Front wheel bearings

I'm still confused because the guy at the shop said I could fit 'standard wheel bearings & they'd be fine... but these special ones for the Ford disc kit were correct & better... somehow??? He also said £52 was for a pair & only one turned up.... When my mechanic fitted them, he said the...

Re: Front wheel bearings

Thanks for the replies, an interesting read.
I'm still confused tbh, but need to chase up a few details my end to find out what was fitted previously...
another question though... does £52 for one wheel bearing sound right to you?

Front wheel bearings

Greetings all... I'm looking to find out any info regarding front wheel bearings for my van, as I have been informed that they are different for owners who have converted their brakes to discs. I had the Ford vented disc kit fitted many years ago... it is the alloy hub version... but one side has be...

Re: Different reading on battery condition gague

Thank you everyone! All fixed now :) It turned out to be the ignition bulb, I cleaned up the bulb holder & popped a spare bulb in & the alternator sprung to life. It happened during a super busy time, so bought & fitted a new alternator in haste, but with no regrets as it was only about ...

Re: Different reading on battery condition gague

I'm not sure why this post duplicated three times, Sorry... Anyway, I tested the battery with a multimeter & the reading didn't change between when the engine was switched off, running or being revved up. I also disconnected the earth terminal from the battery while the engine was running and th...

Different reading on battery condition gague

I noticed recently that the needle on my battery condition gague has moved. Previously the needle would be on about 13v while driving, which indicates 'on charge' on the meter. And now it reads 12v 'off charge' all the time... The battery should be ok... it's a big exide one, that's around a year ol...

Re: Removing sump for oil change?

An interesting read, thanks everyone! :) I should have mentioned... the engine is in good condition... it was rebuilt & balanced about ten years ago & runs beautifully, yeah it cost a far few quid at the time, which is why I'm trying my best to look after it. Having said that it does use a l...

Removing sump for oil change?

It's that time of the year that an oil change is due... however this time I was thinking of trying a more comprehensive job by removing the sump to clean everything out more thoroughly... the question is... is it worth it? Seemed like a good idea at first until I saw the price of a decent gasket, wh...

hi torque starter motor

I need to replace my starter motor & was thinking of upgrading to one of the hi torque ones as ever since having a reconditioned 1275 engine fitted, I've found the standard starter motor is ok, but seems a bit overworked with the higher compression... So I'm interested to hear if anyone has had ...

holes in glittering area

I'm planning to 're paint my whole van before the winter & have started some prep work... the bodywork is all solid except the annoying bit of guttering at the cab end of the van... My mechanic just told me to use fibreglass on these holes, which I thought may do until I read a bit more about it...

Dash mounted radio

I'm thinking about 're locating my car radio from the passenger glove box on the late minor, to under the dashboard... so... potentially a bit of a job, as there's a metal seam under there that's right in the way to mount the radio flat... So I'm thinking of removing the seam by stitch drilling, the...

ok, thanks Phil... when I get around to it I'll pop something on here, I'll try for photos, but I may not get a chance if I hand it over to my mechanic, as he'll just get on with it on his own ;)

noisy clutch

hi all, I'm getting an intermittent noise when holding my clutch pedal down... it only occurs after the van has warmed up & I'm edging along in first gear while in slow moving traffic. the sound is continuous when the pedal is down but kind of undulating squeaks... does this sound familiar to an...
