Re: Where's Roy?
So sad to hear the news. I too haven't been on the forum much lately so wasn't aware of any health issues. What a great wealth of knowledge and stories he was. From fixing dropped bottom trunions with a strap at the roadside to get going again, adjusting torsion bars at the roadside in 15 mins, corr...

Re: Another anti thieft idea
I did come up with an idea years ago (30 odd years ago) to have a security device to lock seat backs in a forward position or tipping seats tipped up. Hence blocking the steering wheel and blocking the driving position. Nothing came of it though !!!!!

Re: lucas l549 base?
There are rubber shaped spacers made by Lucas that enable the early 55 l549 lights to be used on greater compound curved wings. There was a seller on Ebay selling these new old stock. It might help you fit the new copy type L549 flat backed lights to the minor rear wing.

Re: Parking Lights
Yes my dad used parking lights like that on our mog (still have them somewhere). They plugged into a 2 pin socket under the dash. We also had a kettle that plugged in for a cuppa T !!!!!!!!!!! well a small aluminium kettle with an element probe you put through the lid into the water !! fun times.

Re: Poor quality brake shoes?
I didn't set out to buy the cheapest I could get, but I assumed they would be ok because they were from a well-known Minor parts supplier who had a stand at the MMOC rally. My point was that they shouldn't really be selling substandard parts - especially safety-critical ones. Exactly, even 'cheaper...

Re: Spring clearance
You'll notice that on Richards rear spring shackles they still don't point rearwards as much as yours do and as Richards car has been lowered by leaf switching so the shackles point rearward even more than normal. My old Boris was exactly like yours and yes the spring eye was hitting the chassis fla...

Looks like the rear arches have been modded? and maybe that coupled with the lowlight wings ? threw me a bit !!
Fantastic looking motor !!

Re: New build after advice
That car has bee sectioned !!!! (ie a section of body removed all round) hence the strange image looking lowered but with overly large looking windows !!
It will obviously have a full seperate chassis and looks tubbed at the rear for the fat wheels under non flared arches.

Re: Spring clearance
There is a small vertical seam there which you cannot remove , if your springs are still touching the chassis rail with new bushes they are goosed !!!!!! new one's required to sort it i'm afraid. Not really expensive anyway and straightforward to do apart from the front spring eye pin and plate !!!!...

Re: Spring clearance
Longer shackles were an old custom car trick to get a dragster stance !!!!!! If your spring eyes are touching the chassis rail at the shackle i'd say your springs are soft/worn. Mine were doing the same and new leaf springs and poly bushes sorted it. Oh check the shackle bushes first as it could be ...

Re: Brake disc conversion identification
Yes it looked like Sierra to me when I searched a while ago but the majority of info I found showed and related to vented disc kits. Boris Minor has solid discs not vented, the caliper looks exactly the same mind you so maybe I have an earlier or lower spec kit here on Boris, he also has alloy hubs ...

Re: Brake disc conversion identification
Looks like the same ford type kit I have on old Boris Minor. Not much help mind you as it was on when I bought him so not sure what ford they're from. If it's sticking a piston and seal kit for both calipers should sort it unless it's being held on slightly due to the master cylinder not having been...

When you order your new bushes (polybush) add on the shackle pins and nuts as they're only cheap.

Re: Knocking and bad cornering
Do the static checks on things mentioned first and then get it supported on the chassis legs with wheels still on but clear of the ground. You want wheels on to make it easier to find the problem. Now grasp each wheel in turn and give it a jolly good workout. In out, side to side, top to bottom, gi...

Re: Advice on buying a Convertible please.
Please don't take this the wrong way but you appear to be pushing this vastly overpriced car rather than putting forward other suggestions when all here have said it's way overpriced and will stand at £1,000s lost as soon as you buy it. In fact what you'd loose in value purchasing this would buy you...

Re: Cylinder Head Nuts
I clean my piston tops by masking the rest of the block face off, pack grease into the piston to bore gap, clean piston, then as you lower it a little the grease will in theory have held any rogue bits of muck, clean then lower the piston a little more etc etc. Might not be an approved method but i'...
