Re: Mystery engine not starting

fuel is getting to the carb? Is it likely something's been sucked through and blocked it?

Clutch I can deal with once she's running.

Mystery engine not starting

On my drive home from work today the car wouldn't accelerate up hil, in 3rd or 2nd, a hill she has happily gone up before. The revs climbed but she didn't accelerate, knackered clutch thought me. So I pulled over and sat there for a minute the engine idled. I got out to see what adjustment could be ...

Re: leaks!!

Captain Tolley's creeping crack repair is a fantastic product that doesn't seem to have become big in the classic car world. It's primarly for boats, you pour a little of the stuff in to where you think water's getting in, if there is a leak it tends to run in to the crack very fast, if not it will ...

Re: Fitting a spin on oil filter (daft question alert)

Did you have any trouble with the oil feed pipe? Did you use thread sealing compound or anything?

Headlamp adjustment

Just went to adjust my headlights and discovered someone at some point has bodged the heigh adjustment on the offside lamp. Instead of a captive nut behind there was a very long bolt with a very seized nut on it. the flat head cap sheared off before the nut would budge! Anyway, is the easiest option...

Re: Faulty fuel gauge.

No reason this shouldn't be a sender problem. My sender had simply become seized in the quarter of a tank position, freed it off, a little WD-40, works a treat now.

As said, whether it goes back to 0 with the ignition off is a good question!

Re: modern seats

I have seats from a Mk1 Ford Fiesta. The fabric is not beautiful but I really like the shape. They're comfortable, heigh adjustable driver's seat, built in seat belt points which I wanted. Seats were £25 each, for all my skills I am not a fabricator/welder so I got both seats fitted for £200 locally...

The internet is fitering any sarcasm that might have come with. But I really don't want it to leak, nothing like at that rate anyway.

Re: Oil filter housing

I got impatient and went digging. Got the old seal out, really difficult to prise free. It would be hard enough and then it's upside down and covered in oil. I ran a stanley knife in to it and managed to get it off that way. Fitted the new seal, same size, same groove. What a nightmare. like trying ...

Re: Oil filter housing

In future, check for leak by spinning the engine on the starter with plugs out. This circulates the new oil - and reveals any leaks without spills... This is sound advice, I had been rushing which is never ever good. Tomorrow I'm going to start digging for this old seal, I'm told they can go really...

Re: Oil filter housing

First of all my apologies for swearing, I was at my wits end this morning watching another fiver's worth of oil all over the road. I'm sure that given several attempts and an amount of luck I could get this thing to seal up again but it should not be this hard to change an oil filter. Pressing the c...

Re: Oil filter housing

I've just got the seal in there, started the engine and oil has immidiately started [Don't swear or you will be banned - Admin] out of the housing. Is there meant to be a plate on top of the filter? What am I doing wrong? I want to run my engine after this gasket change and I'm being held back by th...

Re: Oil filter housing

My kit only came with what I would naturally describe as a 'skinny' seal, but obviously I have nothing to compare it against. I have the best feel / look that I could but couldn't find an old seal in there!

Will all the engine oil drop out if I remove the filter housing?

Oil filter housing

Just swapped the head gasket out, while I was about it changed the oil and the oil filter. I love old engines but my my some of the designs of things are shocking! The oil filter housing being one of them. She's leaking so tomorrow I want to have another look at the seal that goes on the top of the ...

Re: Fitting the brake light switch

I imagine you will lose some break fluid I don't know weather it's nessecery to bleed them though. Try and keep the fluid off any paintwork under the bonnet, I'd surround the fitting with rag first. I imagine it has come fitted with some sort of o-ring? If not it may rely on the taper thread fitting...

Re: Extra wiring to radio etc.

Are there any classic looking fuse boxes with a common + rail (bus rail I've heard it called)?

Both the moggie and MG boxes seem to need one + wire per item, could end up being a lot of wires!

Car Aerial

Rightly or wrongly I want to fit a stereo to my moggy.

Is there somewhere that looks good and has simple wiring back to the dash? Is there a good route from one of the front wings?

Extra wiring to radio etc.

In the near future there are 3 main things I would like to install which are electrical, they are: Cigarette lighter socket (10 amp) Radio (8 amp max, maybe?) Electric fan (only 8 inch, maybe 6 amp) I've already got an alternator installed so generating the power doesn't worry me. My problem is the ...

Re: fuel gauge

Sure it's not just a loose connection to the gauge (behind the speedo), being breifly engaged by the off motion of the key?
