Thanks for that Iain, that does make sense. Unfortunately the old one that came off fell to bits and it was not possible to work out what went where.

Split screen fitting problems - more of them!

I know a lot has already been written on this subject, but need a bit of advice from someone who has done the job recently please. Front screen first. Did it as per the manual, screens fitted to the rubber with an old cut-off centre pillar in place with an old rubber gasket as well to space it. The ...

Lip out would be the obvious choice as the rubber is then stretched on the corners when the lid is shut onto it. Lip in and the rubber on the corners would be compressed.

SII boot lid seals

The seal for the SII is a solid rubber moulding that fits over the return edge of the boot opening on the body and leaves a blade standing out. On later cars, the seal is a square section that is glued to the inside of the bootlid and closes onto the same return. When you look at the moulding for th...

They are either BSF or UNF, a mixture of both is used on the car. The front wheel cylinders are different to the rest of the car, but cant remember which is which. Try phoning ESM or Charlie Ware's.

1098 with 948 box? SII gearbox options continued

For those that haven't read my previous posts, I've got a 1098 engine in a SII and was looking to fit a 1098 box, having been warned not to use the 803 (I dont have an 803 engine). However, I dont want to cut the floor to accomodate the remote change of the 1098 and was hoping to fit the rear castin...

1098 gearbox with 803 lever conversion - update!

Have taken the rear castings off the 1098 & 803 boxes. It is not a direct swap. The bearing housing that sits in the 1098 box appears to be stepped and is wider than the milled out seating in the 803 rear casting. There is also a "peg" off to one side that locates into the 1098 rear ca...

SII gearbox options

Thanks for your replies to my earlier post about mating an 803 gearbox to a 1098 engine. I'll take your advice and go with the 1098 box. However, need your input again please! I don't particularly want to cut the floor of the SII. The 1098 box will probably fit if I remove the remote and fit it afte...

Thanks for your input, I like the idea of using the 1098 box and the 803 stick.

Can someone warn me of any problems please. I'm quite capable with a spanner, does the remote just come off and the stick bolt on?

Thanks

1098 engine and 803 gearbox?

Will the early long stick gearbox match with a 1098 engine?

I want to keep the 803 gearbox in my SII but dont have an 803 engine, have several 1098s and want to get the car on the road.

What about clutch?

Or, will the rear casting of the 803 box fit onto the 1098 box?

Suggestions please!

Hub bearing numbers

Does anyone know the bearing and oil seal numbers of the front and rear hub bearings please?

I dont want the Morris part numbers, I want the manufacturers part numbers.

If you can help please indicate which maker they are from (eg SKF)

Thanks

Thanks for the input, no, not electronic ignition. Decoke could be favourite, although I will try reducing the tick over as well.

Running on

My 1098 keeps running on after it is turned off. The timing is at about 3 deg BTDC using a timing light.
Any ideas?

Is there a difference in size between the early and late front back plates? If so, can anyone tell me the diameter of the later ones please.

Dwell angle

Can any of the tech heads out there tell me what the dwell angle should be for the correct points gap on a standard 1098?

I would also be interested to know how you calculate it.

Many thanks
