Sorry Declan, we’ve had a few days away, so only just seen the picture, and the engine looks stunning. Has it had internal work done as well?

Re: Ignition timing....again
Thanks for the replies everyone, they’re really appreciated.
Declan, that’s my type of fix to a problem so I’ll give that a go. And that’s a really clean looking engine

Re: Ignition timing....again
Thanks Phil
I assume TDC on number 1 cylinder, but how would I then know where to put the advance mark reasonably accurately?

Ignition timing....again
My question isn’t how to set the timing, but with the timing marks at the bottom of the crank pulley, how the hell am I supposed to see them to point the strobe at. I have a lower left leg prosthesis so I struggle a bit in the old bending/crawling department, so I wondered if anyone has a trick of t...

Colour change
I bought my better half a 1959 Tourer in cream with her as the third keepers and a genuine 54000 miles. I was convinced it was the original colour with a red interior and hood (checked under carpets, trims etc and all cream). I just couldn’t get my head around the grey hood frame though, so I sent f...

Re: Rear lights
Wow!! I honestly didn’t expect the response I’ve received, so quick and the vehicle knowledge is amazing. Thanks to all who replied for taking the time to help and especially palacebear, it’s really very humbling. Her indoors needs to decide how close to period she’d like to get the car without spen...

Re: Rear lights
If you're able, maybe let us know the chassis/VIN number (shown on V5 reg. document if available or if not, from plate on driver's side of front bulkhead) but FOR YOUR SECURITY don't quote the whole number here. Show the last three digits as asterisks e.g. MAS3/987*** :) The VIN/chassis number is M...

Re: Rear lights
Thanks for all the replies.
I’ll dig out the paperwork tomorrow. There’s everything that’s ever been spent on the car including the purchase receipt, so maybe any mods will be in there, and I’ll take a couple of photographs and upload them

Re: Rear lights
Thanks for the reply palacebear, the cars never had semaphores and it’s got the indicator switch/horn push combined, with the amber light on top, so that’s what made me think it should have indicators all round. After reading the link you gave me, it sounds like the red lamp flashed as an indicator....

Rear lights
Hi, This is my first post following my failed attempt to find to find an answer using the forum search facility. My other half is the proud owner of a 1959 convertible that has got the combined lighting/indicator rear lights fitted, that I think are from a later model. She would like the period ligh...

Re: Paint codes & bodywork / trim colours
I read that Boomlander so I reckon that's a possibility. Watch this spaceBoomlander wrote:Take the boot lid to a paint supplier and have it matched like I did. (See my post further up in this thread) The existing paint will be identified even if it is not original.

Re: Paint codes & bodywork / trim colours
Should be on the data plate on the driver's side bulkhead under the bonnet or front passenger side floor of the engine bay. :D Really?? First I've heard of that. Phil, My understanding is also the Old English White wasn't offered in that year - what makes you think your car is Old English White as ...

Re: Paint codes & bodywork / trim colours
Hi I've just bought my wife our first Minor, a 1959 convertible that's only had 3 owners from new, done a genuine 54000 miles and came complete with all the paperwork to prove it. Change of ownership documents , every MOT it's ever had and receipts for servicing, spares etc. Problem is, it's painted...
