Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
Hi all, I'm back working on the car this weekend, I hadn't made a lot of progress mainly down to motivation but this week i have bitten the bullet and got stuck in. I have had the pins machined for the alignment jig and I've started to put the bits together. Closeup of pin fitted passenger side, pla...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
IMG_4583.JPEG test fit of the side plates, I have welded in the bolts for attaching the bumper mounts, the plates look to be correct so far, next stage is to get the eye bolts out and feed an 18mm rod through the chasis legs and into the plates to get them aligned correctly, then I can mark up the ...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
So today I tackled the side plates for the front end alignment jig, this was something I was struggling with due to the measurements being in inches and the available sizes of plate in metric form, So I figured I would use a cornflake packet to test my working out on. IMG_4571.JPEG Here is the cut c...

IMG_4534.JPEG The selection of steel plate I have ordered for the front end alignment jig i am going to make. IMG_4543.JPEG This is a test, making up the bracket for the top tube of the jig, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it that way at the moment, i may bolt the side plates straight to the ...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
Definitely worth doing the chassis legs they are one of the most highly stressed areas and hide their corrosion well until the day your front suspension collapses. Our car was in a very similar condition if you look at our restoration thread (VAE 306H) you will see how I approached many of the prob...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
I'm of little to no use regarding the restoration work your undertaking on the body of your car, but just wanted to say how much admiration I have for how your getting stuck in with it. I've read about the unimaginably tough times you've had of late (I can't even begin to imagine) and I hope that d...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
Sorry ive been quiet of late, its been a tough month all in all, but focusing on Nobby.. I did manage to get the car on my home made rollover jig, but the car wasn't safe it would rock back and forth over the ends of the vehicle and I wasn't happy with it. So i have changed my approach and decided t...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
I have taken delivery of a tin of craftmaster engine enamel MWOG Green to do the engine with, but its a bit cold to be painting anything, its ready for when I've dismantled the engine and I have it ready to paint. IMG_4444.JPEG i cut a bit of sterling board and bolted into the back seat area, I hope...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
Another reason for the delay, was i needed to rehome my milling machine onto a new bench, and also build a bench for more generally metal fabrication use. IMG_4381.JPEG The mobile bench carcass, this is my standard construction for benches except for the addition of the castors, this gives me flexib...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
So its been a tough few weeks, I have been working on thi8ngs but at a slower pace. I have built the two stands for the rollover jig, and cut two circles of sterling board with positional hols drilled to enable me to lock the car in position on the stands when turning it in the jig. I deliberated ab...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
I believe the tie bar would have originally been welded to the lip on the edge on the bonnet (based on ours having torn welds there). I Think your right Kevin, one side I appear to have spot welds and pop rivets on the other, so it looks like its been repaired in the past. I plan to remake the end ...

Re: More progress less rust.
Yes, they do indeed turn the car, however as I continue the panel replacement, the car get's that bit heavier and it needs a bit more wellie to turn it over. To begin with I only had holes in the tube at 90% apart but as the work went on, it was really good to have the angle of the car set to suit ...

Re: 10 years on and its time to do that full restoration
So the jobs list now looks like this: 1) remove centre console with switches and speedo, the heater, handbrake lever, headlining, and remaining seatbelt parts. 2) remove the drivers wing. 3) drain brake fluid and remove brake master cylinder, pedals to come out, and dip switch to come off. 4) build ...
