Petrol sender unit

Hi, What is the best material for petrol tank sender unit. I have to replace the cork type on a regular basis. Saw a rubber one advertised as petrol proof but it failed completely within a few months. Screws are still tight when i come to replace gasket.

Re: Ser11 semiphore switch.

Hi all, Grease arrived today. Cold in garage but it took me approx 15 min to re-assemble. Greased leather seal & casing & switch working a treat--at least 20-25 seconds. Better longer- can always cancel manually. Still to fit to dash. Almost did not renew my subs to MMOC last month but very ...

Re: Ser11 semiphore switch.

Thanks again myoldjalopy & other replies. I removed the switch, checked the cotton pad & found it very hard at the point. Fitted a new piece of cotton & grub screw & after some minor adjustment switch operated satisfactorly. Being quite inquisitive, I decided to strip the switch anyw...

Ser11 semiphore switch.

Hi, Anyone been brave enough to dismantle & re-assemble said switch. Just got my ser11 back to 1954 by removing flashing indicators (fitted under bumpers) and along with bulbs from ESM I now have bright flashing trafficators. Only problem is that the switch returns very quickly to cancel. With a...

Rust removal

electrolysis. Risking grandmothers & eggs, this is for newbies. Very inexpensive & easy way to remove rust from small items is to use Soda Crystals, water & battery charger. I have used this many times & it also removes paint (Practical Classics 2008). Follow link http://antique-engi...

Re: 1275cc midget fan blade upgrade

Re fan blade. Rather late but hope this helps. I had fitted a water temp gauge to my ser11 which showed temp to be aprox 85/90 deg with the single blade. On one of the rare sunny days that we had last summer, i was 10 miles from home when the blade broke in half-- massive clatter & vibration. On...

Re: Fuel tank how to clean, or is it too far gone?

I had this problem when I bought my 54 splittie 3 years ago. I had previously read that ordinary household vinegar was a good rust remover. Chucked two ltrs, left it overnight and then gave it a good shake. Lots of muck came out. Now when i visually check my in line filter, it is as clean as a whist...

cold heater

Hi, Just fitted round heater to my 54 splitscreen. New mechanical take off valve, hoses & return to btm of rad. Flushed & refilled system. Run engine up to operating temp but heater hose only gets hot as far as bulkhead. Removed hose from btm of rad, connected garden hose & water flowed ...

Help. Ser 11 going great all summer BUT on a run today & almost home we had a sudden misfire. Nursed home & began checking. Removing both No1 & 2 leads made no diff to engine. Running on 3 & 4. Good spark at plugs which were dry . Points badly pitted so replaced & set to 15 thou....

Re: unleaded conversion

Thanks for replies, head converted prior to my purchase last year. Had rocker cover off to repaint and found clearances well above stated. Original hand book states 12 thou for all so i reset them. After all back and running when i had this thought re hotter running.

unleaded conversion

Hi,
Question. If cyl head has been converted to run on unleaded, do tappet clearances need to be increased? Engine run slightly hotter?

Re: Wobbly speedo

Hi, Found a classic car workshop on my doorstep - well 50 mile round trip. Removed speedo head & paid him a visit. Two days later head was ready to pick up. He had stripped, cleaned & lubricated it. I lightly greased, re-routed the cable & fitted speedo . Road test & not a waver. JOB...

Wobbly speedo

54 Split screen - juke box dash. Speedo wobbled + - 20 mph at approx 40. Now it goes from zero to opp end. Have checked cable from g/box end & feels smooth. About to remove head to have a look. Cable seems to have weird route from head, goes left behind dash and enters engine comp in the near si...

Re: vibration

Hey Ho Thanks all. Found my old mounts in the recycle bin. Certainly showing their age but aren't we all? (speaking for myself-12 yrs older than my Morris) I cleaned them up and used Back to Black on them and they look ok. Certainly soft but fatter than the new ones which are very hard. Spent Sat am...
