Re: Shaking in reverse

It should just start to pull on the gearbox but only just, not to move it.

Re: Shaking in reverse

Thanks Phil, yes I realise the cable restrains the foreward movement, however years ago it took me a long while to eliminate a judder in reverse, only to find the said cable had snapped, replacing solved the problem. So rightly or wrongly I always suspect the cable with these symptoms. Maybe we’ll f...

Re: Shaking in reverse

I bet the gearbox steady wire has broken, or it’s too slack.

Re: Ad removal?

Oh well, it’s done. Can’t see an issue in the O/P being able to edit their own post though, perhaps it goes hand in glove with the ‘no reply’ restriction.

Re: Garage recommendation Bristol/Bath are

I’m in the RAC, they keep texting me saying they come out and service members cars, if your a member see if they will help. ——- or failing that slacken the handbrake cables right off, adjust the rear brake shoes so they just bind on the drums, then back off one click of the adjuster. You can then ad...

Re: Ad removal?

I’m not sure if it can be edited. For some long standing reason, apparently not to upset a seller, a reply is not possible, otherwise another post could be added with the required withdrawal message. Personally I think this ‘no reply’ is counterproductive, however that’s the way it is.

Yes these old threads feature many people that we never hear from again. The Morris Minor perhaps just a passing whim.

Stainless steel hub caps

Has anyone bought these from ESM, I want a set but interested to know if they are as sturdy as the original ones. Thanks.

Re: Breather systems

Two things, first, is there a preferred position for the canister, ie timing chain cover or, as mine is, side cover ? Secondly, what are the consequences of using the PCV valve set up, together with the carb connection ?

I expect the fitter was handy with the air gun, to snap the bolt. Despite most having a torque wrench available.

Re: O ring valve stem seal fitment

After the valve is in the guide, the O ring type of seal is then fitted over the protruding valve stem. The type that fits over the top of the valve guide are apparently better, however I believe they require a guide that has a recess to secure the seal.

Re: 1098 oil pressure light pressure.

Well of course I see the advantage of gauges but despite that I like the simplicity of just a couple of lamps, it’s a Morris Minor after all. For me it’s relaxed motoring, not worrying if I’m running a couple of pounds under pressure. The vehicle I recently sold had me playing that game, although it...

Re: Diff oil

It’s beginning to look like metal containers with their lid arrangement don’t lend themselves to the addition of a plastic disc, after the tin is formed.
The plastic containers with a screw on lid, do not restrict the fitting of said disc. So maybe that is the determining factor.
