New Temperature Gauge - suggestions please
I've researched a whole lot of info but haven't made a decision yet .. but it looks like the most straightforward way to go is to purchase an entirely new gauge with compatible sender included , and use a top-hose sender adapter. The car is a 1957 803cc split-screen with gold-face speedo and positiv...

Re: temp gauge wiring
Just looking at Moggiethou's pic of the voltage stab. I would like to also install a Smith's temp. Before I start dismantling the dash ... does a 1957 Series II 803 cc split-screen have a voltage stabiliser on the rear of the speedo at 12oclock that I will be able to use? ... great pic by the way an...

Re: Brake pedal return spring
Mark , yes agree .. as expected really I should have photos ... '57 Minor - floor cover all-in-one. exposes chassis rails and entire GBox housing entirely. from memory the forward end of the return spring hooks into a hole about 12 inches up the rail (yes I recall in a tab I think) I considered the ...

Re: Brake pedal return spring
Hi Mark ... Absolutely agree with you .. an absolute pain ! ! ! ! ! ... after installing my refurbished Brake Master Cylinder (tricky enough in itself ..) I assumed the final bits putting everything back would be simple and straightforward. Then I encountered this !!! ... Mine is a 1957 split-screen...

Temperature Gauge 803cc
I have had an NOS temp gauge stored away for many years .. never used...It's a Smiths F Fahrenheit one. I've read several of the possibilities here but would appreciate some additional advice on the 803cc motor. What are the best options. I understand that there is no tapping anywhere on the 803 to ...

bypass hose - again (or not)
While trying not to raise a well-thrashed subject again (have read all the valuable and helpful information so far) ... My question is more a "what would someone else do ? ". :D .... After getting the ol' 57 splitter back on the road .. MOT'd and running well ...I decided to stock up on so...

Re: New Locking Fuel Cap
Just fitted it ...seems OK...I didnt want to mess with it too much in case it wasnt compatible..the screws in fact do simply wedge themselves against the nozzle body. I thought there was something more substantial than that but it does the job. One thing I did find was best to smear some dry lube on...

Re: New Locking Fuel Cap
So in terms of the screws...they just "wedge" themselves up against the outer wall of the nozzle ? Just seemed a bit feeble to me as a retainer..must work I guess...

New Locking Fuel Cap
I purchased one of the recognised common locking type fuel caps and either I must be missing something obvious ... or ? I looked at the product pictures before buying, and even at that time I wondered about the "screws" for the adapter portion as to where they would screw in to ! ! ! ....a...

Re: Column-Mounted indicator stalk
Good job Mike ... did you get a spray match from a colourshop ?... the blue is a turquoise -ey hue. It appears there is only 1 topcoat as I can see the base primer in places on the door sills - but I'm unsure if its original. The car has been stored in a garage since 1992 (last MOT) and hasn't been ...

Re: Column-Mounted indicator stalk
Hi, This was my solution. Like you my series 2 column has no shroud, so rather than a rotating column mounted switch I went with the original style switches, white for trafficators (with the flashing LEDs fitted) and black for indicators, via a flasher can, which also operates the light in the cent...

Re: Sticky trafficator
thanks for the heads-up , yes I have checked any fouling of the edges on operation....the only other thing is that there is a slight sideways movement but not excessive. The light does however flicker sometimes when gently moving the arm from side to side indicating a possible connection issue as we...

Re: Drivers door handle on series 2
The return spring is part of the handle on the 4door. It's a bit difficult to explain without photographs but it is a rather fiddly job..... You need to strip the door down and remove the handle first :( . You can buy the part you need from the usual Minor specialists. I had to do mine a couple of ...

Re: Sticky trafficator
Hi My drivers side trafficator is starting to stick, with engine off it needs a bit of encouragement, ie tap from the inside. When engine is on it works 90% of the time, perhaps has more voltage when engine is on, or just vibration making it easier for it?? Either way I would like it to work 100% o...

Re: Very (?) mild upgrade.
I went down this same route several years ago. I installed a 948cc engine and gearbox - and kept the long gearstick by 'marrying' the 803 box rear casing with the 948 bellhousing. If you want to retain the 803 reverse gear selection (i.e. lifting the gearstick to engage reverse) you will also have ...

Re: Master cylinder removal
Millermans is the one I followed as I had seen it earlier when investigating (thanks M). Except that I used a short length of light gauge chain with a U-shackle and a short 45mm dia length of wood (curtain rod). Strong enough , and doesn't need to move down much.

Re: Column-Mounted indicator stalk
Thanks all.. yes agree .. the rotation of the stalk was not ideal , workable but an annoyance. Since I wished to keep everything 100% original it was either a dash mounted teardrop switch , or maintain and adapt the Hella column switch option. We ended up fabricating a much better solution which wil...

Column-Mounted indicator stalk
I've decided to supplement the trafficators on our 1956 split-screen and install flashing indicators. Lots of helpful stuff here in the forum with choices and wiring options to use either both trafficators/flashers , or not ... I guess the good thing is that the trafficators work fine after all thes...
