Ive had a look around for anything that isn’t working and found the rhs side light(lookout from the drivers seat isn’t working. It isn’t the bulb as I tried it in the other light,and it’s fine.everything else is working fine.

Update. The battery Has arrived( finally) and she started up fine. Im still at a loss where the Green/brown wire belongs as I haven’t noticed it before.

Thanks for your help. I charged the battery up fully overnight but it lost charge quickly. Ive ordered a new battery and will see what happens when replaced

Green/ brown wire near dynamo
I have a green / brown wire unconnected near the dynamo. The car won’t start and just gives a click when turning the key. Could this be connected?

No .I have taken the ignition barrel out and cleaned it up. It was covered in what looked like wd-40.put it back together and she works fine.ordered a solenoid but don't need it. I will keep it as a spare. The red/wire removal and a lead to the battery is a trick I have learned today and will prove ...

Cheers. Diconnected the red/white wire from the solenoid and bridged the terminal to the battery. Fires up. Time to check the ignition now

The red and yellow lights are on the speedo. But when turning the key nothing happens. No click and no start. If I can turn it over by bridging the terminals does that mean there power to the solenoid?

Solenoid?
I can only start her up by bridging the the leads on the solenoid.does this mean I need a new solenoid or are there other things to check?

Cheers,finally sorted it.wouldnt go in fully but after your advice turned the rotor arm until it slotted in.thanks guys it was doing my head in.

The opening side of
the clamp which has the bolt through it is at the top. Is that right?

I have put the clamp on the same way as it came off.the square bolt is towards the bulkhead and the slotted end is towards the rad.When I connect the clampito the distributor first there is a small gap to the engine block.

Cheers for the replies. It is the right clamp but when connected to the engine the distributor won't go through it,and when put on the distributor before fitting it won't go fully in.

Cheers for the replies.the distributor clamp is correct but I can't get the distributor to go in fully .when connecting the clamp to the distributor and trying to push it in there is a small gap.

Distributor spinning in engine block
I am fitting an electonic ignition distributor and it turns freely. I have tightened the clamp but it doent seem to get hold of it. Should it turn freely or sure it lock into place.

It wouldn't fire up and on inspection I found the wire that goes into the distributor cap had broken off.probably when removing the starter motor one of the many times.put a new spade connector on and she is firing up fine every time so all is well thanks.

Took the starter off 3 times this morning applied copper s!ip then wd40 and pushed it up and down for about 10 minutes each time then cleaned off with brake cleaner.started it a dozen times without sticking.hopefully that will sort it.now I just need to get the engine running as I must have flooded ...

I did as they said and applied copper slip.the Bendix is still not totally free and seems to stick at the top of its run.I reckon that's why it not engaging on the second attempt.on refitting it started first time but not after that.It looks like I will have to try a replacement.
