Re: 1960/61 convertible front side lights

Thank you for your comments, my car is still in the garage having work done (not related to the side light), however, as previously stated the lens is of the "beehive" type with the "swirls" in the lens, which I also "think" is opaque. I don't know what bulbs are curren...

Re: 1960/61 convertible front side lights

I believe that separate indicator lights have not been fitted. Until I've finished the upgrade on the front side lights, I'm reluctant to proceed with the rear lights, but if/when I do I will update members. Meanwhile I note that members haven't yet commented whether clear lens are available to repl...

Re: 1960/61 convertible front side lights

Good morning & thank you for your advice. Since my initial posting I've been to the garage that's currently doing some work on my moggie & checked things so I can properly answer some of yours & other members questions as follows. My front side lights are type L488, apologies for incorre...

Re: 1960/61 convertible front side lights

May I thank members for their useful replies & answer some of their questions. I've not owned the car for long & I'm still exploring & uncovering things. It has an alternator & a negative earth. I believe that the side lights are L489 type with clear "beehive" glass lenses....

1960/61 convertible front side lights

Can any member please advise if I can & how to proceed in modifying the front side lights which display a white light to flashing units, preferably amber, but still retain the white light? Additionally, is it then possible to fit an aftermarket "Hazard Warning Light Kit", so that in th...

Wiring in a bank of plugs/usb ports

I would like to have the temporary use of a satnav, dashcam & mobile phone whilst driving my car, as well as being able to use an electronic plug in tyre compressor to check/inflate when necessary my tyres. Can any member suggest/recommend the safest/most practical way of achieving this? I'm awa...

Fitting seat belts in a factory built 1960 convertible

I’m keen to fit inertia reel seat belts to the front seats & lap seat belts at the rear, as they are seldom occupied. I’ve reviewed the MMOC website, the Morris Minors Owners Co.UK, spoke to numerous owners of convertibles at MMOC shows, our SE Staffs branch, as well as contacting other branches...

Re: Can someone please advise how to replace the bump stop on a 1961 tourer?

Gentlemen, apologies for not replying earlier, firstly thank you all for your helpful comments. My reference to looking inside the engine bay was to see if there's any cracks, patches, etc. where the front bump stops or rebound stops are beneath. I did with the aid of an inspection lamp, closely loo...

Can someone please advise how to replace the bump stop on a 1961 tourer?

I viewed a 1961 tourer with a colleague & looking in the engine bay we had concerns that the bump stops on either side were missing, how difficult is it to replace? Furthermore, will missing bump stops be picked up by an MOT inspection & result in a failure or advisory? We also noticed that ...

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Just to update members who've participated in this post, I've measured the amperage of the demister & it's around 5A. I've also obtained some white cabling to match the ignition colour on the old wiring diagram I have. Everything seemed to work on the "mock-up" in my garage & in th...

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Hi Brian, I'm at a branch mtg tonight & hopefully the guy who's got a better multi-meter, which I think has a 20A internal fuse, mines only a 5A, will be there & I will ask him if I can borrow it. Meanwhile, I've inserted a 10A fuse (I've got a range of other lower/higher ones ready) near th...

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Brian, thank you for your advice, the wires on my multi-meter are about the same diameter & it's fitted with an internal fuse, however, my friend has an industrial type, that has a higher fuse rating, so I will ask him to check the amperage on my mock up. I'll install a second in-line fuse at th...

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Brian, yes that's the one, although mine didn't come in a box, it seems from the description that the body is plastic (bakelite?), apologies as I thought it's a black metal casing. Does the box in your picture refer to a date? Regarding your suggestion of the "final working fuse should be at th...

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Gentlemen, thank you all for your advice. I've a 1981 booklet titled Autodata Car Repair Manual Minor 1000 1956-71. Towards the end there's a section on installing a rear screen heater, with 2 examples, the first & more simpler, shows a diagram of the heater circuit without a relay, the second d...

Re: Dash board mounted push-pull switches

Thank you for your advice. I was thinking of trying one of the "pens" used to touch up grouting in bathrooms as the nib is fine & the pen is easy to apply. However, I will also try your recommendations & see what works best.

Re: Wiring diagram for installing a rear windscreen demister

Thank you for the 2 replies so far. In reply to the first one, I should have stated negative earth, I apologise for this confusion. Regarding the point about 17A wire & considering using a 35A in-line fuse & possible adverse consequences. According to the note on the spool, the wire is rated...

Dash board mounted push-pull switches

Hi everyone, my original black bakelite switches have worn legends eg unable to see L for lights etc. Apart from replacing these working switches, I wondered about carefully re-stenciling the legend, has anyone successfully done this & can they plse advise how? Thank you in advance.
