Surface Rust

Hi everone Can anyone recommend a product to get rust off paintwork and chrome and then offer some protection. I have a 1971 Morris Traveller and the chrome bumpers are showing rust spots and the metal grill is showing quite a lot of rust so I need to sand down to bare metal and repaint. I will then...

Re: rust prevention products

Hello Budgie Thanks for that . As you probably realize I am fairly new to classic car ownership so forgive my naive question but what time of year would you recommend - late summer? The car was already waxoiled underneath when I bought it about 7 months ago so it is probably OK at the moment. Regard...

rust prevention products

Hello everyone The grill on my 1971 Traveller has suddenly started to show rust coming through so I intend to rub it down to bare metal, prime and respray it. Can anyone recommend a reliable rust prevention product to apply to the bare metal please? With regard to the underside will waxoiling help p...

Re: Traveller rear door locking mechanisms

Hello all and thanks for your replies. Springs for guides don't seem to be available even at Charles Ware! By chance I found that fitting cable ties through the guides and tightening them, cutting off the excess to minimise appearance, reduces the rattles problem significantly. Hope this is of use t...

Re: Morris Minor 1098cc bmc engine

Thanks to everyone who replied - much appreciated.

Went to B&Q and bought the only oil they had that was'nt synthtic or part synthetic. 20w-40w.

£10 for 5 ltrs so not expensive but certainly looks OK and genuine oil. Will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks again

Oil Viscosity

Hello

I have recently aquired a 1971 Morris Traveller but the Drivers handbook is not clear on which engine oil I should use. I believe that it is the original engine, reconditioned about ten years ago and converted to unleaded.

Can anyone help with this please?

Regards

Re: Traveller rear door locking mechanisms

Hello Thanks for the information. The guides are just basically holes through which the rods pass and therefore rattle. There appears to be some pressure against the guides on the top section of the door but not quite enough. No sign of any springs. The bottom rod has a lot of free play when the doo...

Traveller rear door locking mechanisms

Hello all. The rear door locking mechanism on my recently aquired Traveller rattles noisily, like many others no doubt. Has anyone tried to replace the mechanisem with bolts plus a mortice type lock removing the need for the long rod which passes through three bored fittings creating rattles, which ...

Re: Wood protection

Hello

Thanks to everyone who replied. My conclusion is that a non-sticky oil seems to be the consensus.

Thank you all very helpful

Morris Minor upgrades

Hello

I have recently purchased a 1971 Morris Traveller and would like to get a few upgrades done on the car. Does anyone know a firm which carries out upgrade work in an area covering South Yorkshire, Derby, East Midlands please. I am a bit long in the tooth for DIY

Wood protection

Hello - I am a newbie to both the club and MM Traveller ownership. My car appears to have been well restored but the woodwork needs a little tlc ( nothing too onerous). I just wondered what the general opinion is of the best products for protecting the woodwork after sanding. Yacht varnish seems pop...
