Re: Pedal pivot woes.

Thankfully not necessary to copletely remove the box. With the linkage disconnected, it is usually possible to wiggle the clutch pedal out. Worst case, support the box on a jack, remove the cross member, and then lower the box a little and push it to one side. It remains attached ot the engine, and...

Re: Pedal pivot woes.

You do not need to remove the entire gearbox cover to lubricate the shaft, only the smaller plate over the master cylinder. However, if there is movement of both pedals then that usually means that the shaft on the clutch pedal is worn and/or the bearing inside the brake opedal. You will need to re...

Re: Pedal pivot woes.

Thanks guys, all useful information. Looks like a carpets out and gearbox cover off job. I’ve had a look up on the ramps and nothing is obviously loose, so let’s hope it’s just lube. If not, then the shaft comes out for inspection and maybe replacement and new bearings. Fitting a grease nipple is a ...

Pedal pivot woes.

I have just noticed that when I push the clutch in, the brake pedal pushes back slightly. Not much, maybe an 8th of an inch, but you can definitely feel it. Same with engine running or not. I’m guessing this is play in the bearings supporting the clutch pedal shaft on which the brake pedal pivots, a...

Re: What did Morris get wrong originally?

My father has mentioned the A40 Devon/Dorset many times, in connection with the use of mazac in the door handles/latches. Every time you see one, the door handles sag, no matter how tidy the car. I know Mini saloon boot locks could be forced open, even when locked. Some bar steward stole my jack an...

A Cooper S version of the later cars would have been fun.

Re: MESSAGE BOARD REPLACEMENT

please make it easier to post photos. I have given up trying to post photos from my Mac. I cannot get past the stage where the image is too big no matter what I try. For technical reasons, such as the amount of space they take up, slowing the pages down when loading, etc, many forums have a size li...

Re: Speed Limiters

The big problem with speed limiters could be bunching of traffic. If cars are physically limited to 60 on a 60 limit road, we can assume that most people will drive at the maximum speed the limiter allows. Of course it won’t be exactly 60 for all limiters. Due to manufacturing and calibration tolera...

Re: 1275 engine, 5 speed gearbox, & propshaft

Charles Ware was one company that used to do the Celica gearbox on the Marina 1275. They still stock all the bits (clutch plates etc.) to service them. I have the same setup on my car and it works very well. Nice robust and positive gearbox. But they are getting hard to find these days so most new 5...

Looks like a very precise hole. If it was hand cut for an instrument, it was carefully done.

Nothing unusual about your car? Military, police or anything like that?

Re: Headlamp Peak

I’m inclined to agree that they are dangerous.

Anybody passed an MOT with them fitted? Anyone been pulled over?

But not so dangerous as the vertical number plates we used to see on the front mudguards of motorcycles. Those things were lethal.

Re: MESSAGE BOARD REPLACEMENT

It looks as if a new board will become inevitable at some point and we will just have to bite the bullet. What would be nice would be if the old board could be preserved as a separate read-only archive. This would preserve the wisdom of the years in searchable form and links to old posts could be ma...

Re: Is it just me or does it happen to you?

I have a dashcam but always forget to put the memory card back in after viewing footage so it might have been a waste of money. :D I keep a spare card and strictly never take one out without putting the other one in. I always delete everything on the removed card after saving anything I want to kee...

Re: ..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps

Seriously though, most Morris Minor Owners tend to be at the older end of the age spectrum.

We should all do what we can to encourage more young people of both genders into the obsession. I mean hobby.

Re: ..and I thought all Morris Minor drivers were nice chaps

I did hear of a local ex Minor owner who was done for growing cannabis several years back but that was after they had sold their Minor - next time I go to local branch meetings I will have to carry out a drugs test on the members present to see if about 0.1 of them is drug driving !!! Oh dear, you ...
